CURRENT EVENTS - TAX DAY - April 20

Since their campaign around the country is to motivate people to stand up to the onslaught of Trump, it most certainly is about Trump. Trump seeks to make EVERYTHING about Trump. You support that. Don't run away from it now.
No, their message is about the 1% in general. Why didn't they give the money to the poor instead of acting like the top 1%? Don't run away from it!

Wow, a shorter stint than a cabbage?

Head of I.R.S. Being Ousted Amid Treasury’s Power Struggle With Elon Musk

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent complained to President Trump that the acting commissioner had been installed without his knowledge.

“The acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service is being replaced after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent complained to President Trump that the latest leader of the agency had been installed without his knowledge and at the behest of billionaire Elon Musk, according to five people with knowledge of the change and the sensitive discussions that precipitated it.

Mr. Bessent believed that Mr. Musk had done an end run around him to get Gary Shapley installed as the interim head of the I.R.S., even though the tax collection agency reports to Mr. Bessent.

Mr. Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency pushed the appointment through White House channels, but Mr. Bessent was not consulted or asked for his blessing, the people said. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private conversations.

Mr. Bessent got Mr. Trump’s approval to unwind the decision. The next acting head of the I.R.S., which has seen a conveyor belt of temporary leaders under Mr. Trump, is expected to be the deputy secretary of the Treasury, Michael Faulkender. He would hold the role until the president’s nominee for the permanent role, former congressman Billy Long, if approved by the Senate, takes over.

Mr. Trump picked Mr. Shapley on Tuesday to run the agency after the previous I.R.S. interim head, Melanie Krause, decided to resign. Ms. Krause quit after the Treasury Department agreed to use I.R.S. data to help Immigration and Customs Enforcement deport undocumented immigrants. After telling colleagues on April 8 she would take the administration’s deferred resignation offer, Ms. Krause remained in the role until Mr. Musk forced the change on Tuesday. …”

[In case you missed the prior post, Shapley didn’t have the typical depth of experience for the role to head the IRS BUT he had been the House GOP’s IRS whistleblower in the Hunter Biden tax case, whose testimony got a lot of criticism for being more a matter of his personal opinions how the case should have been handled by prosecutors rather than whether prosecutors did anything out of the ordinary for similar violations]

Now that’s what I call government efficiency!!
He got Scaramuccied!!!

Women's rights crowd has been silent
That should tell you something, but not what you think it does.

And that video depicts the jumper winning a single event in a single meet, not being the #1 ranked high jumper. I haven't seen any corroboration for that anywhere on the google. Maybe stop posting lies? Does it ever bother you that almost everything you post is full of error?

Obviously you're never going to change your mind, so take your hate to the grave for all I care. It's all transparent bad faith, as if you care about high school girls high jumping in California. Here's what I'm worried about: the collapse of the rule of law; the coming self-inflicted recession; a possible debt default event; loss of allies; risks of dollar collapse or at least dollar degradation; etc. It is quite infuriating when people are so driven by hate that they overlook all those very serious issues that affect the whole world in favor of something that affects basically nobody's life. Maybe there are two or three girls in California who might have won an event but for the other jumper. I mean, who fucking cares?

As usual, the Sey Hay kid and SG are intellectually and actually dishonest.

The image is of Lia Rose who does not own nor is anywhere close to any state record or even leader in Oregon. She/he high jumped 4 ft 8 in, which is terrible.

The current state leaders are XX23'ers Claire Davenport and Catherine Phillips who have jumped 5 ft 5 in, which is 9 inches higher! lol

You mean the right-wing sources that SG is relying on for his "facts" and "information" may not be telling the truth and are unreliable? That can't be!

I can't believe that no one has called out dg's hypocrisy on wasted money and flying. How about the money spent by taxpayer's to fly to play golf upteen times? From what I understand it is a factor of 100 times the cost!
Not only all the golf. Trump has also spent millions of taxpayer dollars attending the Super Bowl, a NASCAR race and multiple UFC fights. There’s no telling what the man’s recreational expenses have totaled in just 3 months.

The U.S. Department of Justice has sent letters to medical journals for supposedly being “partisan,” heavily suggesting that they’re spreading misinformation and are influenced by “funders” rather than medical science. Gizmodo has confirmed that the journal CHEST, a peer-reviewed publication on pulmonary care published by the American College of Chest Physicians, received a letter this week. And MedPage Today reports that at least two other journals have received similar intimidating letters.

One of the DOJ letters, signed by the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Edward R. Martin Jr., first went viral on social media Thursday and is addressed to the editor-in-chief of the journal CHEST, Dr. Peter Mazzone.

“It has been brought to my attention that more and more journals and publications like CHEST Journal are conceding that they are partisans in various scientific debates,” the letter from Martin explains, “that is, that they have a position for which they are advocating either due to advertisement (under postal code) or sponsorship (under relevant fraud regulations). The public has certain expectations and you have certain responsibilities.”

The letter then goes on to list several questions, none of which are the purview of the U.S. Department of Justice, given the free speech protections afforded by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution:

  • How do you assess your responsibilities to protect the public from misinformation?
  • How do you clearly articulate to the public when you have certain viewpoints that are influenced by your ongoing relations with supporters, funders, advertisers, and others?
  • Do you accept articles or essays from competing viewpoints?
  • How do you assess the role played by government officials and funding organizations like the National Institutes of Health in the development of submitted articles?
  • How do you handle allegations that authors of works in your journals may have misled their readers?
The letter went on to say, “I am also interested to know if publishers, journals, and organizations with which you work are adjusting their method of acceptance of competing viewpoints. Are there new norms being developed and offered?” while ending with a request for a response by May 2.
