Local authorities said the soldiers were killed in a suicide attack in north-western Pakistan. The attack was claimed by a faction of the Pakistani Taliban.

At least 16 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a suicide attack that was claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, local government officials and police officers told AFP on Saturday.

The attack in north-western Pakistan also left 29 people injured, including 10 army personnel and 19 civilians.

"A suicide bomber rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a military convoy," said a local government official in North Waziristan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

A police officer informed AFP that the explosion had also caused the roofs of two houses to collapse, injuring six children.

The attack was claimed by the suicide bomber wing of the Hafiz Gul Bahadur armed group, which is affiliated with the Pakistani Taliban….”

That’s the goal? To gain the respect of evil men?
The notion that foreign leaders (especially dictators and strongmen) don't "respect" Democratic presidents and only respect Republican ones has become a conservative trope since at least Obama. Never mind that 9/11 happened under Dubya, that the disastrous Iraq War happened under Dubya, or that Trump has been openly and privately mocked by many foreign leaders who no doubt regard him as a joke and rube, including Putin. As usual with Trumpers, the most important thing in a leader is how publicly they sound tough and macho - that is, they appear to be tough - rather than really being tough and self-confident in private. And when it comes to being privately tough Trump is as fickle and wishy-washy as they come, as his constant backing down on tariffs shows. All that matters to them is the appearance of being tough and macho, not the reality.

Sigh……1869…..it all so hard to take.
C'mon man...

It's just history. I suppose you will sigh when he cites the end of WWII in 1949,the end of the Korean War in 1959, the end of the Viet Nam War in 1979 ?

It's just history, man. The president is laser focused on what's happening here and now... like ending the war in Ukraine and the Middle East

I mean...yeah...but since he loves to compare himself to Lincoln, you'd think he might know the end of that particular war considering the outcome for Abe himself.
