These protests/raids are getting more heated by the day. It won’t end well. And there are people in the Trump Administration absolutely jonesing for a chance to “have no choice” but take drastic action in a Blue city….

100%. I'm not sure jonesing is a strong enough word. They fantasize about it when they go to bed and it's the first thing they think about when they wake up. That is, after all, how one loses one's wife to Elon Fucking Musk.

Yes, there is a purpose, but I would bet that most of them are in it to have some power over others. Being powerless is a horrible feeling, I bet that most of them know it well.

This is precisely the type of lead-in I expected when predicting a city would get placed under martial law (literally or figuratively), by the end of September. This type of protest gives Stephen Miller frothy white spittle at the corners of his mouth.

Next steps, openly antagonize and disappear people from marginalized groups and immigrant neighborhoods via nameless, faceless, militarized squads of goons; prompt brown, black, and “deviant” liberals to respond with rhetorically aggressive (and the occasional tossed water bottle) protests; claim the protestors “StaRtED It!!!” and fire tear gas and non-lethal rounds; mass arrests and black bag people on the streets; institute a curfew to clamp down further; more disappearances; more aggressive protests; martial law.

That said, i expect this is a smaller scale trial. LA is fucking massive and is terribly planned. We’ve seen a variation of what I expect multiple times in LA - seizing control is brutally hard with that logistical landscape and built environment.

I suppose. There are 18k in the CA guard - not sure how he goes about mobilizing that number without also cutting out his political legs. Not to mention, Trump would probably bring in out of state guard if Newsom did pull that gambit.

This could very easily end with unarmed protestors getting shot, and yet I'm sure that Trumpers will defend no matter what. They'll just argue that the protestors had it coming and those poor ICE agents were just doing their duty or some such. You know it's coming.
