Stephen Miller grew up in Southern California and went to Duke, then moved to AL (I think, for a brief period) before settling in DC. JD Vance, of course, also has no roots in or around DC.

And Miller is as usual projecting. Of course he thinks hippies are 90 years old. I'd think that too if I was 900.

Well, I can see his point. Back in the 1990s, there were few problems in this country more urgent than the ingratitude shown by black people for all this country has done for them. To think they want reparations. We should get reparations from them, for all the anguish and disruption caused by "the Civil Rights Movement." Why they couldn't just be grateful that, a hundred years after slavery ended, black people were allowed to vote just like white people?
 
I long for the days of old when polemecists were occasionally useful gadflies on the margin instead of in positions of high power...
 
This might deserve its own thread because it’s been an ongoing saga all summer- the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools is in a massive budget shortfall due to nearly a decade of overspending and negligence across multiple superintendents, financial officers and board members. There have been cuts already and last night the board decided to lay off nearly 300 more employees including assistant principals and dozens of exceptional children staff.

Really, really disappointing situation that has morale among teachers and staff at all time lows and will absolutely have repercussions for the kids:

According to Lindsey Halligan’s Wikipedia page, she’s a 2013 graduate of Trump University.

She’s an alum of the University of Miami Law School; after passing the bar in 2014, she practiced insurance law.

In 2022 she joined the Trump legal team fighting the documents case.

“… There is no evidence Mr. Nguyen mishandled classified data, made poor analytic judgments or politicized his work. However, his role in the analysis of Russian election meddling in 2016 has been a focus of conservative news media, which under Ms. Gabbard has been enough to cost N.S.A. officials their jobs.

Mr. Nguyen’s job became endangered after Ms. Gabbard released a series of statements from an intelligence analyst about Russia’s role in the 2016 election. The analyst had questioned whether Russian attempts to hack computer networks linked to voting systems were given too little attention in the Intelligence Community Assessment being prepared after that election, according to officials.
