More bullshit. Nuclear is by no means the “only” way forward. It is an option along with wind and solar.

The small modular reactors (SMR) from companies like NuScale, Terra, Oklo, Nano, and others are particularly promising. Oklo in particular has developed a method to process nuclear waste into fuel for its mini on-site reactors. Recycling nuclear waste addresses one of the primary objections many people had with traditional nuclear power in the first place…. how to deal with the toxic waste. I’m invested in Oklo because their vision of the whole nuclear ecosystem makes sense to me.

But just stop with this “nuclear is the only way forward” nonsense. There is no “only” way forward, there are a host of options other than coal, which is the only option our idiotic President seems to care about. There is no such thing as “clean coal.” We need to leave that shit in the ground.

“… In 2019, Mr. Trump was making a personalized overture to Mr. Kim, in search of a breakthrough that had eluded prior presidents. But those talks collapsed, and North Korea’s nuclear program accelerated. The U.S. government estimates that North Korea now has roughly 50 nuclear weapons and missiles that can reach the West Coast. Mr. Kim has pledged to keep expanding his nuclear program “exponentially” to deter what he calls U.S. provocations.

… The plan called for the Navy to sneak a nuclear-powered submarine, nearly two football fields long, into the waters off North Korea and then deploy a small team of SEALs in two mini-subs, each about the size of a killer whale, that would motor silently to the shore.

Interesting coda to a very interesting (and quite long) NYT story. So the relevant members of Congress were informed in 2021 and nothing has leaked out until now? BTW, this would have happened with Dunford as CJCS (Milley assumed that role in late 2019). But I would be curious in Milley’s possible role in getting Austin to review this mission.
