Here’s a question — is the identical height and scale of the addition because they are cutting back on the size of the new east wing or changing the size of the main building and West wing? Because the architect already suggested the latter was planned:

“… Baranes said his firm had decided to pursue a plan developed by a previous architect to create a 22,000-square-foot ballroom, featuring ceilings of 38 to 40 feet, that would accommodate about 1,000 people for a seated dinner.

As part of the proposal, Baranes said the heights of the existing White House building and the proposed two-story ballroom building would be aligned so they would “match exactly.”…

… “We believe it’s appropriate to evaluate this condition within the context of the broader White House campus,” Baranes said. “The White House is therefore considering the idea of a modest, one-story addition to the West Wing colonnade, which would serve to restore a sense of symmetry around the original central pavilion.”…”

If I was going to be a largely home bound resident of a place for 4 years, I definitely wouldn’t decide to turn it into a construction site.

He’s homebound?

Really?

NJ golf course. VA golf course. His tacky resort, Mar-A-Lago. His shitty Doral course in Florida.

Overseas junkets.

Is he at 50% residency in the White House?

He’s typically there all day during the week. He doesn’t leave the house at 7 a.m. and spend the workday at a different location. That’s what I meant.

With trees and shrubbery and distance, one can’t see the demolished East Wing from the Oval Office.

It’s not easily visible from most of the First Family’s residential parts of the White House. The destruction/construction area entirely avoidable from the White House if one so chooses.
