And years later - if the country ever does course-correct - we'll find out that Trump used shitty contractors who did a shitty job with shitty materials and then he didn't even pay them. Like when Basil Fawlty used O'Reilly - after Sybill vehemently told him not to - because he was cheaper.

It’s interesting. The symbolism of this ballroom obsession (particularly during a shutdown?) may be causing Trump political problems. I guess we’ll see but at the moment this seems to have more (wider) traction (outside the political sphere) than a lot of much more serious issues.

One thing that I think most American people of all stripes will have a hard time getting behind is the idea that we need a ballroom.

The Trump administration is planning to demolish the entirety of the White House's East Wing as early as this weekend, two senior administration officials said, part of a ballroom project championed by President Trump.

“… The demolition work marks a reversal from earlier this year, when Mr. Trump said the 90,000-square-foot ballroom project "won't interfere with the current building." The East Wing was built in 1902 and renovated in 1942.

It was always the case that the East Wing would need to be "modernized" to enhance security and technology, administration officials said. But during the process of planning the new ballroom, it became apparent that the best option would be to demolish the entire structure.

… The work has affected the White House visitors' office, which handles public tours and events. Tours of the building — which typically start in the East Wing — have been suspended for about two months due to the construction, though officials say they expect to accommodate an updated tour route in the coming days.

The bunker under the East Wing will also be upgraded, sources told CBS News. The White House Military Office is handling the renovation of the bunker, which is known as the President's Emergency Operations Center….”

I'll be blunt - it's going to look like something rich white trash (aka Donald Trump) would build, just like how he's already redecorated the Oval Office and much of the White House in cheap gold crap, so it looks like Mar-a-Lago for him. And you can bet that he will make sure this gaudy new ballroom will be named after him - the Trump Ballroom or Trump Wing - so that his name will be permanently attached to the White House as a huge "eff you" to all of his haters. You can already hear him bragging "Obama never had a part of the White House named after HIM!" to reporters and anyone who will listen. I love reading presidential biographies, and the Rose Garden and East Wing have been a major part of many of them, like bios of JFK or Eisenhower. It's a disgrace, but then we're living in disgraceful times.
