Dems should absolutely use this quote in an ad blitz for midterms as a “let them eat cake” moment. Show clips of Americans struggling to pay bills, groceries, healthcare premiums skyrocketing, government shutdown with people forced to work without pay then show all these clips of Trump talking about the ballroom. Show him with his stupid models, the demolition taking place during a shutdown. Asked about Charlie Kirk? No, hes going to talk about the ballroom. Show him with billionaires asking for money for his ballroom. Then show Leavitt saying “Of course, at this moment in time the ballroom is the president’s main priority.”

Seriously, Democrats everywhere need to be shouting this from the rooftops repeatedly. It really is Dear Leader's "Let Them Eat Cake!" moment.
Except in the entire question/response, she was clearly saying that in reference only to WH changes, not overall.

Still political malpractice in phrasing and it’s not like politicians haven’t weaponized such clips out of context as long as we’ve had audio recordings, so I’m not even saying don’t use it out of context. But I think the media will feel duty-bound to hammer the abuse of context and it may undermine the point.

Just use the videos and Trump’s own words. Keep it simple.

“… Not everyone was nostalgic.

Gahl Hodges Burt, who was social secretary for three years under President Ronald Reagan, said that tearing down the East Wing to make space for the ballroom was an unfortunate necessity, and that change was overdue. Since the State Dining Room holds only 140 seated guests and the East Room has space for 200 at most, recent administrations have taken to erecting enormous tents on the South Lawn for ever larger state dinners.

“Putting up a tent does nothing but make people upset that they’ve come to a state dinner but they never get inside the White House,” Ms. Burt said.

“The only bathroom facilities for a tent are porta-potties. Setting up a kitchen out there is hugely expensive. When the tent is up, the helicopter can’t land. And the grass dies.” (Ms. Burt was referring to the presidential helicopter, Marine One.)

… Mr. LaRosa, who agreed with Ms. Burt that a ballroom was needed to replace the behemoth tents — “the French have the Élysée Palace and here we are having a lawn party” — said he had fond memories of Dr. Biden bringing Willow, the family cat, to her office.

… The East Wing never had the political importance or cachet of the West Wing, which houses the Oval Office. But it became prominent, and controversial, in its rebuilding during World War II, when Republicans denounced the cost as wasteful. Constructed as a two-story wing in the same neoclassical style as the White House, it covered up Roosevelt’s new underground shelter.

“The secretive nature of the construction, tied to military purposes, further fueled suspicions,” Stewart McLaurin, the president of the White House Historical Association, wrote on the group’s website. “However, the East Wing’s utility in supporting the modern presidency eventually quieted critics.’’

I hope he puts his name and signature on the parquet flooring in the ballroom.
I hope he puts his name all over it.

And, makes it the gaudiest, tackiest building he’s ever been associated with.

Puts his name on the roof……on all the exterior walls…….on the floors…..on the interior walls.

Oh good, so now we will get the state determining an appropriate art style like they did in the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany.

FINALLY, a sane and sober article regarding the "historic" East Wing. In 10 years the Donald J. Trump ballroom will be universally loved and appreciated.

Thanks for posting this.

You really are every bit the weasel piece of shit that folks over here accused you of being from day one. I have no idea why I ever tried to engage constructively with you at all. You are a hopelessly lost and irredeemable soul.
You're so angry and tied up in knots about everything "Trump" that you can't even appreciate a bit of levity.

I hope you have a pleasant weekend.
