Did Postmodernism lead to Post-Truth?

Anarchist reactionary running dog revisionist
Hindu Muslim Catholic creation evolutionist
Rational romantic mystic cynical idealist
Minimal expressionist postmodern neo symbolist.

I just want to say that this is a topic where I know just enough to scratch the surface, but I think I learned some things on this topic through this thread.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped me learn.

One follow up question from my learning on this thread...

When we say we're in a "post-T/truth" world, do we mean "T/truth" with a capital-T or a lowercase-t?

I could see it being used either/both way(s), which is confusing unless we define which one we're dealing with.

(My personal hunch is that we mean "post-truth" with a lowercase-t, but I recognize I might be wrong on this.)

Gosh, I have not read Lyotard in a long time. Reading this thread has sparked some memories.

Not to derail the thread too much from its initial posts, but I wonder if the podcast delves into narrative construction (or lack thereof) when referring to postmodernism. To get overly simplistic (and reference another academic) it is not just the message, it is also the medium.

I do greatly appreciate this discussion.

Nah, it was TMI on the interwebz (for most humans). And The Kardashians.

The internet was designed originally for we professors and research types to share data. However, unsubstantiated claims, data on the internet with algorithms feeding your lizard brain foment cults. Particularly in smart phone form.

However, we're not post-facts per se...

political truths - am I in a clan/team or independent especially when repeated?

personal truth - what works for me in a free society

objective truths

demonstrated by repeated , empirical research data

Newtonian physics within limits, Laws of thermodynamics, chemistry, biochemistry.

Biology and medicine - are more complexs but we can establish mechanistic findings that can be replicated by independent laboratories and studies. Metrics in sports hone in on truths of the day. Objective truths allow predictions that can generally hold up...with some confidence interval.

The thing about Trump is that he uses personal truth and objectives to create out of thin air political truths. Many podcasters that want you views and clicks. It's almost post ideology. Cultish or per the Bible Idol Worship.

In sports there are boundaries to fandom that people *generally* agree upon. Rabid natures may vary!!

But with Trump there is no boundary ethical or otherwise besides power and greed and fear.
