Do you boycott?

A music colleague of mine is renting out their house in Greensboro and moving to London for 18 months. A trial run. If they like it, they’ll relocate permanently. He’s a pro musician and he tours Europe frequently. He knows another musician that moved to Paris for a couple of years, didn’t like it so much and switched to London and loves it.
Expensive cities in which to reside no doubt. But he and his wife are empty nesters and can afford it.

My wife (fluent in Spanish) has been wanting to move to Northern Spain for 4.5 years now. Since 1/6/21.

But in terms of boycotting… yes! Most definitely. Most of the ones enumerated on this thread do I try to avoid. Papa John’s Jimmy Johns all the damn Johns, Chick-fil-A, Home Depot, Mickey Ds (tho will admit to grabbing an egg McMuffin on a road trip), MalWart, Hobby Lobby etc. etc.

What did Lowe’s Hardware do? Our local Ace Hadware is ok, but it’s managed by a Trumper so it’s not my fave.

We stopped shopping at Walmart after the election. I've canceled Paramount+

I was gungho to boycott anything and anyone who contributed to the election of Trump... but it's hard. Sometimes you just have to prioritize your own little corner of the world.

Why the hate for McDonalds, who gives more kids their first job than anyone else in the US? Walmart reduced RX prices on generics for everyone when they instituted their low cost generic drug program. Walmart's mission statement is "to save people money so they can live better". This guiding principle, established by founder Sam Walton, emphasizes providing affordable products to help customers improve their quality of life. It's synonymous with their slogan, "Save money. Live better." I guess I can dig down on the sources in donbosco's post to see why the People's Union has their panties in a wad.

There's lots of places that I don't patronize because I think their products suck. I view boycotts as being over more political or moral issues.

I don’t avoid Walmart for political reasons. My issue is twofold, I dislike their stores and going there is always a pain in the ass. I find Target to be a much more pleasant experience, both in the organization and upkeep of their physical properties and in the overall demeanor of far too many of their patrons.

Additionally, as a vendor to Walmart in the past, I found them to be manipulative and unscrupulous.
 
I should have replied that i generally do not really get into political boycotting. For the most part when I do that it is due to consistently bad service or spectacularly bad incident that forces me to say 'never again'.

That stated, we were looking for a new car this Spring and the wife and were in full agreement that we would never buy a Tesla no matter what... so guess that counts?

A glass company here in Burlington has replaced a couple of broken windshields for me. But they had trump signs in front of their building last year. I’ll drive without a windshield like The Dude before I buy another windshield from them.
 
I boycott the chikin place, papa johns, and hobby lobby. I can’t get my wife to drop prime.

I forgot...

I'm boycotting red states. I made an exception for Bonnaroo in tennessee a couple of years ago when my son bought tix for himself, his brother, and me. I refuse to schedule a family vacation or visit SC, FL, or TN. When I have to travel through tennessee, I purposefully buy gas/food before or after, but not in tennessee. I only stop in tennessee to piss.
 
When I decide whether to boycott a business for political or moral reasons, I first consider whether it offers goods or services that I want or need and whether it is convenient to me. If the answer to both of those questions is no, I will boycott that business until they make the necessary changes, such as offering goods or services that I want or need and making things convenient to me.

I don’t eat fast food; so, I can’t say I boycott Chik-fil-A.

The only time I ate in one was November 2001 in Wilmington. My brother, his wife, my wife and I were headed to a movie…..my parents were watching the kids…..it was a “double date night out.”

I wanted to go to a real restaurant. I was out-voted. Chik-fil-A it was.

It was slightly better than I expected - boring, bland food on mediocre bread.

Blah. The fries sucked. I haven’t been back.

Wal-Mart? My ex-wife loved the place. I hated it and haven’t been back since 2004. I’m not gonna spend 20-30 minutes getting in-and-out to save 50 cents on toothpaste (if the savings is real).

I remember one of the things my ex loved about Wal-Mart back in 1992 was supposedly how much American-made stuff it sold. Does anyone sell more useless cheap plastic shit from China and SE Asia than Wal-Mart?

Home Depot and Lowe’s are similar - I’d rather shop at Fitch or the Town & Country down near Polk’s Landing. I love those hardware stores with those bins you can get one item from.
