Maybe. But UNC football has been slightly above average to mediocre for my entire life. Maybe all it takes to wake the sleeping giant is to bet on the right 72 year old instead of the wrong one. But I'm betting every incremental dollar spent on basketball will produce more wins, more championships, and more visibility for the university.
If UNC’s football program isn’t sufficient to gain admission to the P2 conferences by 2036, the UNC athletic program will wither on the vine. Olympic sports will begin to disappear. Men’s basketball will be an also-ran.

UNC football doesn’t need to beat UGA or O$U. It needs to be competitive in the 32-64 team college athletic league that is left standing when the ACC and Big 12 finally die.

You may be correct. But perhaps it also means they don't spend as much on football and instead spread to non revenue sports. Should be enough interest by alums and others in that tier to still get broadcast money.

I know a semi big hitter who has contributed for 30+ years - very good season tix to fb and dean dome. He now is earmarking funds for "fencing, volleyball, and who knows what else"; not fb or bb. Says he isn't into giving $ to teenagers to just play ball. Don't know how many alums will follow suit.
