Holy shit, I thought this was going to be some kind of comedy sketch, with "Donnie Swaggart" being some kind of portmanteau/mashup of Trump and Jimmy Swaggart. He's a REAL dude?? 😮
 
I have more godliness in the head of my dingus than Trump has in his entire disgusting being.

I wish this was comedy or fake. It's sad that we have worthless snake oil salesmen like this and they are rich because of the weak minds of those who show up every Sanday with a mandate to give him their money.

I wonder how many tithe to this moron and then whine about inflation and not being able to afford groceries.
 
I really appreciated the comment about "white theology." All theology is modified: black theology, liberation theology, queer theology, and guess what, white theology. There is no single, standard theology, except maybe "God is love". We straight, white, rich Christians would do well to remember that. Pete Enns and Jared Byas have made some good comments about that on their podcast.

Evangelicals love to talk about the "end times" and people following false religions. At this point one could make a powerful argument that conservative Evangelical Christianity is a false religion following a false prophet - Donald J. Trump, aka "Dear Leader." The Jesus they claim to follow would likely rebuke them for their practices and beliefs.

ETA: It would appear in Donnie Swaggart's case that the apple didn't fall very far from the tree. I wonder if he'll end up like his dad, crying crocodile tears while admitting to misusing his church's money to pay prostitutes to pleasure themselves in hotel rooms while he watched.

Yes. The word evangelical literally means "good message"and doesn't have a monopoly on political leanings. Unfortunately the evangelical right gets all the headlines while the left is mostly ignored. Look up Shane Claiborne, Tony Campolo, Brian MacLaren, Brian Ammons, Gareth Higgins, Diana Butler Bass and others for reference.
