Yes. The word evangelical literally means "good message"and doesn't have a monopoly on political leanings. Unfortunately the evangelical right gets all the headlines while the left is mostly ignored. Look up Shane Claiborne, Tony Campolo, Brian MacLaren, Brian Ammons, Gareth Higgins, Diana Butler Bass and others for reference.
If such people exist, I salute them. I've met a metric ton of evangelicals and never one that was remotely centrist, much less left.
 
So what makes them “evangelical left” rather than just “Christian left?”

When I think “evangelical” I think holy roller, born again, in-your-face word spreaders. When I think of liberal Christians I think of mainstream denominations, not “nondenominational” which indicates to me a lack of infrastructure and financial oversight. But I recognize my own biases.
