Duke Energy is awful

Federal funding to keep coal-fired power plants open. Years ago, I worked at a coal-fired power plant. It had three units with a combined capacity of 2500 MW. When I was there the entire headcount for the facility, which--in addition to the power plants--included a barge unloading facility and a coal preparation plant, was about 400 people. That entire facility has been demolished and replaced with combined cycle natural gas plants, with the same electrical generation capacity. The current headcount for the new facilty is 35 people. While the price of natural gas is much more variable than coal, currently natural gas costs less (in cents per MBTU) than coal. The concept of "let the market decide" has been completely abandoned by the Republican Party, if it ever was a real belief.

I actually get money back every year from Wake Electric since it's a co-op. It's not much, but you can tell they just aren't all about making more and more profit like Duke Energy is. Oh, and don't forget about them dumping coal ash into the water supply.

Where do you think Wake Electric buys its power? It buys the bulk of its electricity from Duke Power.
