Elon in Charlotte

Once Were...

Now Are...

I'm pretty sure there's some office buildings in Ballentyne that have some empty floors.
Maybe they could finally build something on that lot on East Boulevard where the Epicurean used to be. That’s not too far from campus.

And speaking of empty floors in Ballantyne office buildings, many of the office buildings uptown have been clearing out recently. Plenty of room in those.

It really surprises me that UNC and Duke don’t have extensive presences in Charlotte, but Wake Forest does.

Me too, but if I had to guess, I'd say two different reasons. People are going to travel for Duke. If you get into Duke law school, I think it makes sense for most people to bite the bullet, take out the loans and make that money back after graduation even if you need to move your family.

UNC law is still a great school but one step down from Duke. The decision on whether to uproot everything and move to chapel Hill might be different for a lot of people. I do think a UNC Law Branch campus in Charlotte would do very well, but my guess is the reason they aren't expanding is some kind of turf battle with UNC Charlotte.

Oh yeah great points for sure!

I expect the UNC System BOG thinks the 32,000+ students at UNCC is a significant UNC presence in Charlotte.
Yeah, that’s a good point. But both UVA and Virginia Tech have considerably expanded their presence in NoVa, and I just figured that especially as a banking center, at the very least you would think that UNC Kenan-Flagler and Duke Fuqua would have more presence there. I guess UNC recently added the executive MBA option in Charlotte.

In re UNC: East-Northeast of Uptown there is a place that goes by the name of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Apparently, over 32,000 students have been fooled into thinking it is a real UNC.
In re Duke: The Grand Poopbahs and Imperial Potentates of the Court of the Dukedom of Duke would NEVER be caught slumming in the same town with those hirelings who make menial and routine financial transactions for the IMPERIAL DUKE ENDOWMENT!

UNC Chapel Hill and UNC Charlotte are not the same institution and do not confer the same degree, which is why UNC Kenan-Flagler has seen fit to establish an executive MBA program in Charlotte, despite UNC Charlotte having a business school, and why the UNC school of medicine was at one point in negotiation with Atrium to establish a UNC school of medicine in Charlotte. I’m not the only person with the crazy enough idea that the flagship institution of the state of North Carolina should have a more expensive presence in the flagship city in the state.

Daughter just graduated from there. Great kid who was very involved but certainly no academic star in HS. I got over my condescending attitude I had for it back in the day when I read the book 'Transforming a College', given to me by a friend in education, and pretty much made her go. The experience she had was beyond our dreams for her. The encouragement and appreciation her professors had for her was off the charts. She wound up being a TA in a science class (NOT her forte), worked as a writing tutor and for the English department in an administrative role. She had FUN, and met and became great friends with kids from all over the country (and her likely future husband). I simply can't say enough great things about the school.
My son got offered a lot of scholarship money to go there, so we visited several times. He ultimately thought it was too small but we were very impressed by several of the programs and the facilities.
