Well, I am 100% sure any cuts would be grandfathered in. Politicians aren't going to cut SS benefits for existing recipients. So your parents have nothing to worry about and they can continue to hate the godless Dems.

As someone who is just a few years from retirement age I just hope they don't cut it for people who are close to retirement (actually I hope they don't cut or alter it at all, but that seems very unrealistic at this point). That's been my fear for awhile - that I'll get close to retirement age and they'll cut Social Security, and while I do have some other retirement funds I'll likely still need my Social Security to be fully comfortable. I'm wondering at this point if I'll ever be able to retire.

You are talking about people that think retirement shouldnt exist and people should love work and work until they die.

I hate Elon with a ridiculous passion.

Gen X may quickly get bitten...and was the biggest Trump supporting generation, sadly.

Leon and tRump won't ever need SS. Why would they care about ordinary people who do?
I do plan to work until I die but hope to be able to work less someday.

Plans are good to have. Fallback plans are worth it, too. I planned to be semiretired and do small carpentry projects all my life. It would keep me active and I'd make a little money and do only stuff I enjoyed. An essential tremor at 63 actually put me in early retirement. While that has improved, it's still enough to prevent me regaining much in the way of usable skills.

I'd love to as well, but that's not possible for everyone, or even a great majority of people. Depending on the surveys and studies I've read, at least 40% of retirees depend almost entirely on Social Security for their retirement income, and many more need it as a supplement to what other savings they do have. Abolishing, privatizing, or even just significantly cutting it will be a disaster of epic proportions, imo. Not that Trump or Elon or any of their other plutocrat buddies would care, of course.

1000%. If I am able to, I totally get how lucky I would be. I am just replying to the "I will work until I am dead" - F that. I wanna live.
