I still think the two of them are going to have a huge falling-out at some point. Trump already sounds annoyed, and I don't see Dear Leader sharing the spotlight for very long with anybody. If Musk's assault on the federal government doesn't go well and causes a lot of criticism, Trump will dump him, imo.
True but Elon is building/expanding his own base in the meantime.

Maybe, but I don't see him having nearly Trump's appeal to voters. And if he screws up this government "reform" effort his popularity will quickly plummet.
Kind of depends on whether he is perceived as screwing it up or it’s spun into a deep state counter-attack that requires him to work from farther outside the government etc.

If he screws it up even he and the GOP propaganda machine are going to have difficulty in spinning it as anything other than a disaster, imo. I just don't think he has anything like Trump's appeal to the base.

Objectivity is not achieved by someone who is highly partisan even if they are brought in from the outside. That's especially true if they are brought in without being vetted in any way.
I'm more talking about objectively looking at processes to see where they can be streamlined, weeding out duplicate or unnecessary positions..... Stuff like that. Nothing that would be R or D. Like "Bar Rescue" on steroids and for the government.

Which doesn't change a thing.

If nothing else, having two heads in a organization to weed out duplicate and unnecessary positions is ridiculous and a middle finger to the idiots who take their mission seriously. It's like a negative IQ test. If you'll believe that, you'll believe anything.

I'm confused. Is your concern that Musk and Ramaswamy are too politically biased to do their job, are you against looking at the federal government for general efficiency improvements or are you against having two people doing it?

I'm cautiously optimistic about DOGE. Objective assessment and change often has to be spearheaded by an outsider, which Musk and Ramaswamy are.
Sure, if you ignore everything they've said about the endeavor, I could see how one would be optimistic. But anyone who listens to them talk for about ten seconds about it will realize that the likelihood that it will result in an objective and rational look at how the government can do things better is a fool. Their only goal is to hack and burn.

So, I see the richest man on the planet, with access to more direct communication to the masses than anyone, is now openly identifying with symbols used by avowed Nazis and holocaust supporters (intentionally did not use “deniers”).

This is the continued language of pre-genocide, pre-mass repression.

Thank you in advance for all the whataboutisms, “yeah but”s, and “he’s just joking” that I won’t see.

There is definitely a ton of nonsensical spending in the federal budget. I'm sure there's opportunity to save billions.

I have very little faith that Muskrek will be able to go about it in a objective way...there will be a political bias to the machete they wield.

Congress can cut waste anytime it wants and the GOP has both chambers. I don’t see anything substantive to come from DOGE without running afoul of SCOTUS decisions regarding the line item veto and that was even done with the blessing of congress.

Dude, "rooting out inefficiency in government" has been a GOP thing for decades. Every GOP administration sets up some sort of task force to cut the fat. Sometimes Congress too. Do you remember Simpson Bowles?

And the reason you don't hear about it is that there just isn't much waste at all (outside of the DoD, which I can't comment on). When the GOP talks about waste, they are only talking about things they don't like (as always) and it's usually ignorant. These things have a purpose. If you don't like the purpose, fine, but it's not just waste or inefficiency.

You'll see. This DOGE thing will come up with basically nothing and probably you will never hear of it again after the inauguration. If you do, it will be some symbolic bullshit or talking about cutting valuable programs that Musk etc. just don't like (which is not the same thing at all).
