Emissions Testing is a Scam

I think the annual inspection is more of a scam than the emissions one
Technology might have eliminated a lot of the necessity but you should have seen some of the moving road hazards before the inspections started. People riding around with one headlight or on maypop tires or shit hanging off. Cars that would double as mosquito foggers and just some stuff that was dangerous to others. I like them keeping some of that off the road.

The window tinting thing is what I hate. I've gotten a couple of trucks that came from out-of-state and the tint on the front windows was too dark for NC. PITA to get it off and have different tint on the front and back windows.

I think all window tinting beyond the factory should be outlawed. If I cannot see through the glass to make eye contact with the driver, the tinting is too dark. It’s not just dangerous for police to approach a car they can’t see into, pedestrians and other drivers should be able to see what other drivers are looking at (or more importantly, what they are not looking at.)

That was because so often there was nothing actually checked.

The emissions process needs to be improved, but it does help to ensure that cars are meeting the standards set for pollution.

If one wants to get around emissions, figure out how to register the car in a county that doesn't require them. My BIL registered a car that couldn't pass emissions in the country where his father lived, under the father's address, never had to pass the test again.

And for Zen, I completely disagree that we don't need some structure for governing cars in the US.

I'm not sure how you could argue against registration being necessary.

Especially for cars 3 years old or less.
In Georgia they don't require an emissions test until the car is three years old.

My truck is a 2022 and I have not had an emissions test yet but purchased my tags the other day for $20.

Ga charges the full tax at the sale of the car, not each year.

Exactly and this is what we would still have with no regulations.

I've owned several unregistered cars.

If you don't need a tag and insurance, you don't have to register a car.

Ask farmers about the farm vehicles that they use around the farm that never are driven on the street.
hmmm... ok. I'm surprised the state allowing someone to buy a vehicle and drive it off the lot without registering it.

Where did I say I drove it off the lot?

Private sales are a thing for cars.

I've lost count of how many cars I've purchased in my life and I've purchased multiple for reasons other than driving on the roads. Those were not registered as I didn't need a tag or insurance.

A friend at work has a dune buggy. We were discussing the different rules for that type of vehicle. He registered it in Tenn, so he could get a tag and insurance. Ga didn't require it to be registered, but he was having trouble with insurance for an unregistered vehicle.

So, I will admit that I don't know all of the rules and that things are often different in different states, I do know there are situations where one can own an unregistered vehicle.

But, back to your original point, I don't agree that we shouldn't register vehicles, and I don't recall you supporting your position regarding that statement.
