None of which address: Who is Bubba? Why did St. Donald of Mar-a-Lago blow him? Does Putin have a photo/video of it? What happened to the CDs and hard drives that the FBI found in Epstein's safe that disappeared?
Humble asking that we keep our eyes on the prize here and stop falling into the same old trap.

Trumps current defense it that the entire Epstein thing is "fake news". We do realize that banging on about photos of Trump blowing Clinton is actually bailing Trump here, right? Trump is Teflon? Only because of us. We are the ones who create the conditions under which he gets a pass.

I really hate to be the spoil sport and I PROMISE YOU that I find the notion equally amusing as you all do, but there's already a mountain of evidence linking Trump to Epstein. We have exactly what we need if we can just somehow, some way scrape up some modicum of message discipline.

I think it's VERY likely that bad actors have actually have started creating these memes and using bot nets to amplify then. If I ran a Russian troll farm that's exactly what I'd damn sure be doing.

Our habit of getting distracted by the next ephemeral thing coming along is PRECISELY what makes Trump Teflon in the first place. Trump asked the Georgia SoS to find 30,000 votes. Great we're done here. Message discipline. We pound this nail. Nothing else. Zip Zilch Nada. I don't care what other crazy thing he's doing. Those are deliberate provocations to knock us off message. To get us to go chasing something else.

Same deal here. Trump is inextricably linked to Epstein. Were done here. Don't talk about anything else. Message discipline. Whatever the hell we do, we don't share Trump blowing Clinton memes because that just feeds the fake news narrative. Please.

Seems it could be a matter of timing. The DOJ investigation he asked for is not yet underway so that barrier would not put in place in time to effectively stall the House vote that is imminent. By flipping, he can claim he was FOR the release of the files (as per his campaign). Of course, in the meantime (i.e. before the Senate vote), DOJ will put a halt to the whole thing in order to preserve "the integrity" of the investigation.

He knows a jailbreak is coming in the House vote

I think this is probably the first instance I can remember of congressional Republicans influencing trump on something. I think it's likely that enough of them made known, privately, to Trump how difficult a position this was putting them in that it ultimately persuaded him to reverse course. It's the first time and a while that Trump has showed any sign of making a prudent political decision about these files.

Now to see if what we get is actually meaningful in any way - and/or if there's been a shredding/redacting party at DOJ.

If Trump actually thinks, as he is now saying, that the files should be released, he doesn't need Congress to approve it. He could order the files to be released today. I agree this new position is (1) a recognition that the House is about to spiral against him, and (2) an indication his team has put a plan in place to be sure the files are never released, regardless of what Congress does. Which means, hopefully, that this issue will continue to dog Trump long into the future.

Dems' singular message today should be, "We're glad to see Trump now agrees the files should be released. He should order them to be released immediately. That's all it takes. If he doesn't, that means he still doesn't want you to see what's in them, regardless of what he's saying now."

Respectfully disagree. First off, what's the end-goal that the message discipline is trying to accomplish? Impeachment? Blue wave in the midterms? Poor approval rating? I'm not sure repeating "Trump is inextricably linked to Epstein" helps with any of these. It's been a known fact for many, many years. It was a known fact when he was reelected. It's not in dispute. It simply doesn't matter to people who like him. They're inclined to disbelieve or excuse any accusation, regardless of the discipline with which it is delivered. He and his supporters don't need an excuse to scream fake news, they've been doing it for a decade.

Now, do I believe Trump actually fellated Bill Clinton? No. But Trump spends so much time throwing utter bullshit against the wall, he deserves to have to play some defense too. The point, as I see it, is twofold: 1) it's a fun release for people who are exhausted and demoralized by the endless news cycles showing the erosion of American democracy; and 2) maybe it puts Trump on tilt and he commits some unforced errors. And, because he cannot let a slight go, there's a non-zero chance that Donald Trump, as President of the United States, will tweet a denial that he ever performed oral sex on former President Bill Clinton. That would be pretty amusing.

Just my take.

We'll see on #2. I think it's more likely they would make an attempt to limit the release by destroying/altering/redacting information, then that they would never actually release anything. I think they're going to do something they say is them releasing the whole files. Whether it really is or not may be difficult to determine.
