Massie has received so many death threats that he felt compelled to post that he was not suicidal anticipating a Jeffrey Epstein fate.
This is America today . Cross Trump and worry about your life.

There's a lot of irony in the Epstein files situation.

Under normal conditions, state local and federal law enforcement will investigate alleged crimes and will bring charges if there is sufficient evidence to do so, but the "files" normally don't see light of day.

Other than Epstein and his wife, no charges have been brought related to the case And now we know why. They're simply isn't enough evidence to bring charges against anyone else.

What we see happening is the reason why these types of files are normally kept from the public eye. We are seeing people's lives ruined and/or dragged through the mud for simply being associated with a really, really really terrible person. We didn't see this happen as it relates to Puff Daddy or r Kelly, but for some reason, it's happening now.

The irony is that both parties have been screaming for the files to be released, Pam Bondi, soon after getting into office, in a rare moment of honesty, said there was nothing there and, yet, people kept screaming to the point that Congress got swept up in it and passed a law forcing this to happen.
I didn't know Epstein was married.

“…
A close reading of the released emails suggests that what is being protected is the comfort of a class of people who believed they were untouchable. The files released reveal a merito-aristocracy that traded favors, influence and access. They depict a transactional world where Kathryn Ruemmler, a former White House counsel for Barack Obama, could joke with a registered sex offender, strategize about her career prospects and accept gifts of designer bags. Howard Lutnick, Mr. Trump’s commerce secretary, claimed he “barely had anything to do” with Mr. Epstein but in fact visited his private island. We read of elites seeking entry to golf clubs, advice on dating, introductions to celebrities and college admission for their children.

The files reveal a barter economy of powerful people who, at best, looked the other way. As Anand Giridharadas has noted, these documents show us “how the elite behave when no one is watching.” They reveal a world where character is irrelevant and connection is everything.…”

“… Wednesday … it was discovered that the face of an undercover FBI employee was left uncovered in a video.

The department requested CNN make the face of an undercover person unidentifiable in a published video of an FBI sting operation to obtain a black book of Epstein’s contacts.

After this video was published by CNN, the Justice Department said it failed to obscure the face of an undercover person in the video, when it included in the most recent dump of Epstein documents. CNN has updated its video with the face of the undercover person obscured.

The original link where the video was found no longer includes the document.

CNN had reached out to the FBI and Justice Department before initially publishing the video. The FBI told CNN to contact the Justice Department, which did not return requests for comment Wednesday.…”

Bondi strikes me as opposite of incompetent. She performs in the job exactly as her boss demands. If the NYT wanted to do potentially impactful editorializing they could write how Trump and Bondi have bastardized the DOJ and specifically the AG role.

Good God. The amount of tin foil being utilized by the far right, because of this story, is likely to impact the metals market.

That has been written multiple times in the Times already.

I realize how naive this sounds, but what gives with the non-whites being such die-hard Trumpers, and by that, I mean going all in with the people who would be fine if people like them never existed or were suddenly and completely wiped out? Is it really just money/power? No self-awareness? Is it the same deal as all the Latinos who voted for Trump in 2024 because "yeah, I'm here illegally but I haven't committed a crime"/"I'm not THAT kind of immigrant or brown person?" Or my peeps, the Dearborn Dumbasses who thought Trump would somehow be wayyyy better for Palestine than Harris would have because........? Never heard a satisfactory explanation for that from any of them either.

Maybe I should take some small comfort in not being able to understand it. It makes me feel like I still have empathy for others and that the MAGA mindset is so foreign to me that I could never hold those "beliefs."
Accommodation and collaboration are vestiges of settler colonialism. They are survival tactics that morph into strategies for acceptance and advancement within the existing power structure. You have the "privilege" of deciding what you want to support or not support. Not everyone feels like they have that freedom.

According to exit polls, the main issue for minorities and whites was the economy. Immigration was the 2nd most cited issue, especially for whites and Hispanics. This was almost exclusively a male story. Harris held on to minority female support at about the same rate as Biden.

That was over a year ago. I would be confident that Trump has lost support amongst all groups since then.

Accommodation and collaboration are also critical levers of democracy. Just sayin.
