Very powerful moment. There are about a dozen victims there. A Dem stated (sorry I don't know all their names), "You and Kashyap keep repeating over and over, if anyone wants to come forward and present evidence, we welcome the opportunity."

He then asked those dozen victims to stand. He asks that those that have spoken to the DOJ to raise their hands. None did. He then asked, how many of you or your lawyers have reached out to the DOJ in an attempt to meet with them? They all raised their hands. And how many of you were declined an opportunity to meet with the DOJ after your request? Again, they all raised their hands.

BONDI: You didn't ask Merrick Garland anything about Epstein
BALINT: Weak sauce. Weak sauce.
BONDI: And with this antisemitic culture right now, she voted against a resolution--
BALINT: You want to go there?! Are you serious? Talking about antisemitism to a woman who lost her grandfather in the Holocaust! Really?! Really?! *storms off*

Bondi look so self-satisfied at the end.

Also, just as an aside, I keep accidentally reading the title of this thread as "They've released wild clams" and every time there's a brief moment of confusion as to what clams have to do with any of this.

I'm genuinely struggling to understand the strategy here. Why in the world would you not be gracious and supportive of these women? I truly don't think even most of the MAGA base wants these Epstein victims to be disrespected and ignored. Why would Bondi not turn around, face them, and say something like, "You brave men and women are truly the victims here. I am so sorry you have suffered so much at the hands of the horrible criminal Jeffrey Epstein. My DOJ is committed to obtaining justice for victims of all kinds of crime, including those committed against you. I'll have someone from my team reach out to each of you so we can determine what we can do to help."

The only explanation I can think of is she's talking to an audience of one, but this should not have been hard. To my knowledge, none of those people in the room were actually accusing Trump personally.

Because the entire intellectual content of MAGA is "liberals are evil," whataboutism, and Trump is always right.

This is how they talk all the time. It's in every Stephen Miller tweet. It's in half of Trump's tweets. It's the only language they have.

You are asking them to be empathetic, and not only can they not do that, they have been trying to actively expel empathy from their world.

She literally knows no other way to speak.

Excellent point. They have determined and even said empathy is wrong.

Because they are incapable of empathy. Trump and all his cronies are sociopaths.

Because she's not committed to justice. She's committed to Trump.

Trump is the real victim here

Seeing these clips of Bondi makes me think that it’s too bad that Congress doesn’t do yearly reviews of cabinet members where they have the opportunity to take a vote as to whether they should keep their jobs. Maybe it wouldn’t make a difference here, and maybe Bondi would be replaced by someone just as bad or even worse, but she should be fired from her job like an Apprentice contestant.
