Why would they publish the story if they were just going to retract/pay up? It's not as if it was unanticipated that he would sue. The guy has defamation complaints on retainer
I’m assuming this is a matter of an editor with a backbone saying “no” and a Murdock with a grudge taking a potshot. I doubt this is some principled corporate move coming from one of the least ethical corporations on the planet.

I expect Trump will drag this out as much as feasible, rack up legal fees, and badmouth News Corp properties on a daily basis. News Corp is publicly traded and as their stock falls, investor pressure builds to settle. Hope I’m wrong.

I’ll be more surprised if this gets to discovery than if News Corp pays a settlement before the year is out.

There is a lot of buzz that WSJ actually trimmed back some other portions of the story and released a more limited expose than was expected. We may never know for sure.

Justice Dept. Asks Manhattan Court to Unseal Epstein Grand Jury Testimony

The president has been under intense political pressure from his base after Attorney General Pam Bondi withheld portions of investigative files on the disgraced financier.

“… Obtaining court approval for unsealing the testimony could be difficult because the records are shielded by grand jury secrecy, to protect crime victims and witnesses. Judges rarely agree to grant public access to such materials.

… In their motion, Ms. Bondi and Mr. Blanche said the Justice Department would work with the U.S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, which prosecuted Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell, to make “appropriate redactions” of information related to victims and “other personal identifying information before releasing the transcripts.…”

Phase 2 of pretending to disclose information?

So, you're suggesting that this whole thing maybe some sort of choreographed and coordinated Kabuki Theater that the Trump Administation and the Murdock media empire have jointly cooked up to undermine, obfuscate, and confuse the issues enough to make the typical MAGA throw up their hands and declare that we will never know the truth of the matter because of the false facts implanted in the official records by the Obama and Biden Administrations?
