So, clearly Trump won't actually sue WSJ if the letter is real, right? He would lose and would make the whole story even bigger.....

Oh yeah, I’m with you, that was totally or mostly tongue in cheek. I don’t actually think there is going to be much saving. Even when Trump is gone, there are far, far, far too many people in this country who are completely OK with authoritarianism for us to be able to go back to the pre-Trump norm.

These are the same questions I had and still have. The conspiracy theory is that if Maxwell had blabbed ob some powerful people, they would have suicided her but seems like a conspiracy theory to me. She went from pampered luxurious lifestyle to 20 years in prison. I think I might take a chance.

And the Biden admin sitting on this seems like even more of a stretch. I can believe they might let a rich donor or powerful person skate like the Republicans did with Epstein the first time but I can't believe they would let Trump become president over their own candidates if there was a bombshell out there.

Trump has rarely filed a winning lawsuit. He’s relied on being able to outlast the other side through costs or delays, or more recently, by abusing the power of his position.

Kind of. But if history repeats, Trump will have no problem filing this lawsuit and getting whatever publicity he can from it. Remember, complaints can say almost anything. The allegations don't have to be true, and they often are not. Trump will NEVER allow a suit like this to get to discovery, though. He'll either (a) dismiss it after getting the publicity he's looking for, or (b) convince Murdoch to pay a nominal amount to settle it, which he'll then spin as a massive win.

I worked with a guy a few years ago who litigated multiple cases against Trump. Trump NEVER uses the court system to achieve justice. He always uses it to delay, to demagogue, or to bend people to his will when he's in a position of power. And to his credit, he's been extraordinarily successful with that tactic over the years. It's corrupt as hell and it makes a mockery of our judicial system, but he's really, really good at it. Mainly because he doesn't have a soul.

I thought the very same. He supposes, and probably right, that's all MAGA needs to hear and the Blondi threat to open up Grant jury testimony (which isn't going to happen. Grand Jury documents are usually hermetically sealed.
 
This may have been covered before, but why didn't the Biden administration release the files? One would think that it would have won the election for them, unless they are also protecting people from their side.

There’s been some speculation that Epstein worked for an intelligence agency (CIA or Mossad). If that were true, it would be incredibly problematic for any president to release the information and put either our own intelligence service or that of a key ally under scrutiny for potential involvement in child sex trafficking.

It’s the latter. I suspect some Dems (eg Clinton) and big political donors might be in there too. Or as has been speculated, sensitive security issues (spy stuff), or both.

Been of that mind since the early 80s. Grew up a staunch supporter. They've used us as a shield too often, sold too many of our secrets and have largely became the people they once despised. I don't know of a thing that we have gotten from them that's worth it.

Also, there's a good chance I'd like them less if the fog of war ever lifted off the USS Liberty incident.

I have a long detailed answer I can provide later. The short answer is this: releasing the files for that purpose would violate fundamental DOJ principles and I think Garland would have resigned before signing off on that. It would have also compromised their criminal cases against Trump which, until last summer, was seen as a rule-of-law way to take him down. After he got immunity, it was too late politically. Any release of files would have been seen as more deep state attacks on Trump and would have blown over.
