CIA Director John Ratcliffe maintained in a heated exchange before a Senate panel that his participation in a Signal group chat, which discussed attacking the Houthis, was above the books and completely legal.

"It is permissible to use to communicate and coordinate for work purposes provided, provided, senator, that any decisions made are also recorded through formal channels," Ratcliffe testified on Capitol Hill on Tuesday morning. "My communications, to be clear, in a single message group were entirely permissible and lawful and did not include classified information."

The CIA chief and other top national security officials showed down with the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence on Tuesday. Democrats grilled the Trump administration officials over their involvement in the secret group chat in which members discussed moving forward with a plan to attack the Yemen-based Houthis.

"One of the first things that happened when I was confirmed as CIA director was Signal was loaded onto my computer at the CIA, as it is for most CIA officers," said Ratcliffe. "One of the things that I was briefed on very early, senator, was by the CIA records management folks about the use of Signal as a permissible work use. It is. That is a practice that preceded the current administration to the Biden administration."

Signal is permitted for coordinating with colleagues about your lunch plans, not the conduct of clandestine operations. What a fucking idiot.

Here’s a real life example of where Signal is permitted. In my reserve capacity I was recently in a professional education course required for my next promotion. We used Signal for coordinating group projects and the like. However, even in preparing our training exercise operation for the course, we did not use fucking Signal because we don’t want our adversaries knowing how we train.

Their refusal to take the L drags the story out and makes them look more ridiculous.

Just take the L and move on. Nothing is going to happen. DOJ isn’t looking to take action, a Republican Congress isn’t going to do anything.
 
This sensitive and classified war action information was on PRIVATE PHONES of gov't admins scattered throughout the globe, including RUSSIA. And no SCIFs, which was the only way HRC passed on classified information.

Another theory is Waltz was trying to do Hegseth a favor and adding the number of a hot, 24 year old staffer with a killer rack that Pete was trying to bone.
 
Having had Top Secret clearance during active duty, I find this whole situation astonishing. No sensitive information should ever be discussed outside of a secure environment. The fact that it came out only because a journalist was included in the texts is irrelevant. Who knows how long this has been going on? Any other active duty military personnel would be court martialed and dishonorably discharged.
Even more astonishing is the brazen refusal to acknowledge that this is a massive fuck-up that should NEVER be allowed to happen.
I strongly suspect that this medium is being used to avoid FOIA requirements that apply to official communications.

Agreed. They’re making it so much worse and, by refusing to acknowledge the fuckup and accept the blame, making clear just how bad it was.
