Yep. The Trump administration (and Republican Party in general) has been waging a war on the very notion of experts, expertise, the importance of experience and training, credentials, etc. The only "qualifications" Trump cares about are how willing they are to constantly kiss his ass, flatter him relentlessly, and obey his every whim, no matter how crazy or contradictory. If Hegseth is forced to step down Trump will likely do just what you said - get another Fox News or right-wing celebrity with no actual training or experience for the job to take the post. What will be interesting is seeing how Republican Senators justify and twist themselves into pretzels to vote for his next nominee for the post.So Hegseth didn't even make it three months before becoming persona non grata in Trump's Cabinet. I wonder which Fox News host Orange Jesus will tap next for SecDef. Or maybe he'll go Newsmax or OAN this time. The possibilities for incompetent, unqualified right wing media sycophants are almost endless.
Expertise gets in the way of Alternative Facts and Alternative Realities.Yep. From that NYT article linked above in this thread:
“… The battles that have roiled Mr. Hegseth’s inner office, though, have focused more on often petty bureaucratic disputes than policy issues, said current and former defense officials. Staff members have complained that meetings overseen by Mr. Hegseth’s handpicked chief of staff, Joe Kasper, meander or take pointlessly bawdy turns. [UPDATE - Kaspar is being reassigned]
One meeting Mr. Kasper led this month, with a group that works with veterans that was offering its services to the Pentagon, devolved into a recounting of an evening Mr. Kasper and a representative of the group spent at a Washington strip club, said a person who took part in the session.
… In late January, Mr. Trump issued an executive order calling for the fielding and deployment of a missile shield to protect the United States from attacks by adversaries such as North Korea and Iran. At the White House’s urging, Pentagon officials scrambled over the course of a few days to put together a “package” directing the Pentagon’s vast bureaucracy to begin moving forward on the complex project.
The document sat unsigned in the defense secretary’s office for nearly three weeks while White House officials called almost daily to check on its status, current and former defense officials said. …”

Horrible leadership. not just the wrong person but so focused on loyalist and sticking into the lips that he's willing to have a national security threat. The clock has to be ticking on Hegseth. He's literally drowning in this role.
What's wrong with that? He seems to be better equipped for being a talking head...What’s sad to me is Fox will hire this jackass back in a heartbeat once he gets shitcanned.
I’ve total faith you are capable of manufacturing a justification for his retention. The clock has to be ticking on Hegseth. He's literally drowning in this role.
Never one to miss jumping on the caboose.Looks like he's on his way out the door. Well deserved.
Exclusive: The White House is looking to replace Pete Hegseth as defense secretary
I would love to see data on how often unnamed/anonymous sources end up being right.Looks like he's on his way out the door. Well deserved.

How does the military/national security agencies ensure that he does not disclose sensitive information going forward? Does a fired SECDEF sign an NDA?Never one to miss jumping on the caboose.
