I have a trip to Spain planned in July, so we booked flights immediately as soon as the Strait of Hormuz was threatened. Jet fuel and ticket prices will be going up soon.

Same, going to Spain in August for the eclipse. Bought my ticket first thing Monday. The price was already $300 higher.

I guess I'm too young to have ever heard of the double nickel. I didn't know that piece of slang. Now I understand the title of the classic Minutemen Album "double nickel on the dime." Going 55 on I-10. LOL.
Want it Carter that lowered the speed limits to 55?

I was around 10 and I recall the statements "at 55 you will get it next week".

We are flying to the West Coast for our July vacation and same thing... Booked this week because even though it's higher than I prefer, I don't trust that things won't jump tremendously

Israel running critically low on ballistic missile interceptors

Israel informed the US this week that it is running critically low on ballistic missile interceptors as the conflict with Iran continues, Semafor reported on Saturday, citing US officials familiar with the matter.

The US has been aware of Israel’s low capacity for months, the report said, adding that it is not running low on interceptors of its own.

“We have all that we need to protect our bases and our personnel in the region and our interests,” a US official told the outlet, adding that Israel is “coming up with solutions to address” their shortage.

“Coming up with solutions” = waiting for us to hand deliver more of ours.

Trump is calling out NATO for not committing to defend the Strait of Hormuz. Their position is "it's not our war".
He wanted them to bear the costs for defending Ukraine (not our problem), so not much of a surprise. FAFO
Seems like this was a problem that should have been anticipated in advance.
Just sayin'

Hochul pleads for wealthy New Yorkers to return from red states like Florida, Texas as tax base 'eroded'

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul indicated that the Empire State needs wealthy individuals paying taxes in the state to help fund social programs, but noted that the state's tax base has "eroded."

During remarks at Politico's "New York Agenda: Albany Summit" event last week, the Democratic governor explained that she needs individuals with a "high net worth to support the generous social programs that we wanna have in our state."

She highlighted the issue by suggesting that wealthy individuals should visit Palm Beach, Florida, to "see who you can bring back home, because our tax base has been eroded."

Yep, the rich will always find a way to weasel their way out of paying taxes.
