MSNBC has an article out on how dissatisfied some young (under 30) Trump voters are, via interviewing 14 young Trump voters in a focus group. We've seen dozens of these kinds of articles before, and they always seem to have the same traits and features. All these articles really show is how wedded these people are to the Cult of Trump, even if they're the ones being hurt.
1) Most of these people insist on calling themselves independents, even though those who were old enough admitted that they also voted for Trump in 2020 and based on their beliefs they're clearly all hard-right Trumpers. One 21-year-old woman called herself an independent even though she admitted that she was a pro-life conservative voter.
2) They kept making statements about Trump and his policies that simply aren't true - "I think Trump cares about the working class" (lol), another "independent" said that Trump had "amended some of the wrongs" from the Biden administration, that Jimmy Kimmel deserved to be censored because his remarks about Kirk's murder were "too insensitive", "too soon", and so on, and that the problem with Democrats is that "They always feel like it has to be their way or it’s nothing at all.” (lol). About half of them seemed to have no problem with Kimmel being censored, although they also claimed to support free speech.
3) As in every other article like this, their dissatisfaction or "disappointment" in Trump is that he's not hurting the right people. They thought tariffs were a good idea but it's hurting them - "Elizabeth M., a 25-year-old Arizona independent, said that while she thinks Trump “cares about the working class” and that she does agree that something needs to be done to help Americans businesses compete with other countries, “the tariffs have been a little counterintuitive” because of their effect on consumers. She pointed to her husband’s experience as a car salesman and how new tariffs on car parts forced his company to change its pricing.“I believe with the reasoning behind them, I do think that something has to be done to compete with the other countries. I think it just should have been affecting, maybe the big businesses versus us as the consumers being affected by it,” she said." If Trump's policies were just hurting people and groups they don't like then they'd be fine with it, but since it's hurting them they'll complain, even though they still all support him.
4) None of them regretted voting for Trump, including the so-called independents. When asked to describe their opinion of Democrats, some key words were "hateful", "selfish", "crybabies", "lazy" "ignorant", "divisive" and so on. All of which describes Trump and his party perfectly, and makes a mockery of their claims to be independent or open-minded on politics. My favorite was a 23-year-old self-described independent who said that his problem with Democrats was that they were focused too much on “people who are trying to take advantage of welfare and more so immigrants" - which is straight Trumper and Fox News talk. These voters are all diehard Trumpers, plain and simple.
IMO, none of these people are going to vote for Democrats. Whether they admit it or not they're all Trump, MAGA, Republican voters and they'll never vote Democratic unless Democrats become Republicans, and even then they'd rationalize sticking with the "real thing."
