These individuals aren't Independent so much as they are just really dumb and ignorant.

Difficultly spelling or even enunciating Democrat or Republican drives a good third of independent registrations. These individuals aren't Independent so much as they are just really dumb and ignorant.
I suspect the vast, vast majority of “independent” voters are simply ignorant voters. Highly intelligent and informed independent voters are very unusual. These individuals aren't Independent so much as they are just really dumb and ignorant.
I will say thisI suspect the vast, vast majority of “independent” voters are simply ignorant voters. Highly intelligent and informed independent voters are very unusual.
Agreed. I usually don't care for these focus group type events, as several focus groups of "uncommitted voters" in the past turned out to be fake - in one case they were a group of MAGA Republican women faking being uncommitted female voters to fool CNN (that was back in 2020, I do believe) and overall I'm dubious of people who, in the Age of Trump, claim they can't decide whether they'll vote for him or not. This NYT series has been interesting. I think this is the 4th or 5th one over the last 18 months or so focusing on Trump voters. Revealing and terrifying.
I am a lifelong independent. I've never been registered with a party. And I haven't voted for a republican in over two decades.I will say this
Independents suck
Choices are clear
Pick one
Coming from a strong Republican family, I was a registered Republican through the 1990s. What finally did it for me was the awfulness of Newt Gingrich and the stupid effort to impeach Bill Clinton over Monica Lewinsky, and Dubya winning with a paper-thin resume in 2000. I switched to Unaffiliated after the 2000 election (I voted for Gore) and haven't looked back. I'm sure I'll never vote Republican again in my lifetime, unless we have some kind of political realignment of epic proportions.I am a lifelong independent. I've never been registered with a party. And I haven't voted for a republican in over two decades.
“If I’m elected class president, we’ll have vending machines in the cafeteria, recess will be longer, and no math class!”Agreed. Having said that, this NY Times article of "disappointed" Trump voters has been very revealing of the mindset of these people, and it is simply appalling at how ignorant, disconnected from reality, and frankly, delusional, all of them are. The quotes from them simply leave you shaking your head most of the time. After reading their comments, it really isn't surprising at all how Dear Leader got elected twice, and nearly won in 2020. The gullibility and delusion of most of these voters is just off the charts, no question. There really is a sucker (millions, actually) born every minute, it seems.
