People have been saying this talk is overly hyperbolic or alarmist but I think it must be assumed at this point.

Trump has shown he has no use for political norms. Trump has shown he has no issue with using he power to seek revenge. He has expressed admiration for how North Koreans praise Kim Jong Un, knowing full well that that are coerced into it.

There is no doubt that Trump wants an FBI to silence critics and suppress dissent.

There is nothing standing in the way of him achieving that. He has been given a green light.

Trump is uniquely amoral. If you give him a green light to act as he desires, he will and that is terrifying.

Republicans in Congress will reach a point where they have to make a real decision. Someone needs to get it through to them that Trump is in this for his own power and wealth. That spells danger even for them and their goals.

I have no direct contact with a federal (or state) court. I have had direct contact with Jesse Helms and his Congressional Club and other right-wing political activists. John Roberts is a right-wing political activist who happens to be Chief Justice of SCOTUS.

Citizens United and Shelby happened long before Trump came down his gawdy escalator.

I wasn’t at all surprised or shocked by the right-wing activism of the Roberts’ Court. I expected it. I expect it to worsen.

CU and Shelby, as bad as they were, were at least written like normal SCOTUS opinions. The immunity opinion was a whole different animal in its contempt for judicial norms and utterly nonsensical reasoning. I was shocked by that one, too.

Dobbs was also pretty shocking in its style, but that was Alito, which explains most of it.

Yes, these anti-social, immoral magas and their supplicants will get to bask in the "glory" of watching enemies get pilloried in public, and they'll gleefully submit their anonymous lies against their neighbors, friends, and family (looking at you ... you know who you are). That is, yes, ttump et al. are going to extrajudicially kill people (It. Will. Happen.); they will overtly oppress, repress, and imprison tens of thousands more (IMO, hundreds of thousands). Also, this germ-line of tyrants looks upon "their own" as the most dangerous enemy. Paranoia always dominates the mind of sociopathic tyrants. Always. This country is rapidly becoming more dangerous, FOR EVERYONE.

It's of no consolation to me, but the most dangerous place is anywhere adjacent to ttump, Patel, Hegseth, Vought, Gabbard, and Miller - downline, will be next door to all local variations of our resident mundane concern trolls and bosiders. But don't forget mundane concern trolls and bosiders, most folks see you for what you are, and the likelihood you get preemptively reported is very high - the instinct for survival is brings out the wiles.

In many ways, history is merely a cookbook, and ttump is following the oppressive and repressive despot recipe to a t. ttump is exactly the fella the founders warned against.

Not sure there's as much daylight between Shelby County and Trump v. US. I agree that Citizens United was more normal. But Shelby County invented bullshit legal concepts out of thin air just as much as Trump v. US. "Equal dignity doctrine" can suck my dick.

During his confirmation hearing on Thursday, Patel testified under oath that no FBI officials would be retaliated against.

“All FBI employees will be protected against political retribution,” Patel told Senators.

Just over twenty-four hours later, Driscoll sent a memo to the FBI workforce explaining that Emil Bove, the acting Deputy Attorney General and Trump's former defense lawyer, had ordered him to remove eight senior FBI executives. Driscoll also said he had been told to turn over the names of every FBI employee involved in investigating Jan. 6 rioters.

Driscoll stated that the eight executives had been forced out but did not say in the memo whether he would turn over the broader list of Jan. 6-related FBI investigators — a list that he noted encompasses thousands of its employees, including him.

It’s not known whether anyone other than the eight senior FBI executives have been separated from the bureau. One official familiar with the matter said that top Trump administration officials have made it clear that they want at least some of the FBI agents who pursued Jan. 6 cases to be fired, just as multiple DOJ prosecutors involved with the Jan. 6 prosecutions were fired.
