Fook dook

Man, you unhappy? You fired your coach yet? You should. Anybody that can’t win with all the talent should be canned post haste.

Hell, I’m still giddy about dusting your last Coach hahaha

Were you ready to fire Dean Smith? Hell, you’re probably too young for all that. Lulz

If that’s true, then you know, like I do, that it’s gonna take a lot more than a couple chuckle heads on a message board for me to want to fire my coach.

Good thing ole Deano predated these things… but I’m sure those first twenty years before a title went by like that 🫰🏻

Remember, Dean was dealing with UCLA and a limited NCAA field, but yeah we went to a lot of FFs before he got one.

I remember that and I remember that K was in a make or break year the year Alarie, Dawkins and Bilas got there.

Yep. The wolves were at his throat. Thank goodness for Tom Butters.

What a bullshit response. Dean smith inherited a team on probation and had to rebuild an entire program from scratch. Schyer inherited a perennial top 5 team and has had nothing but top recruiting classes including almost certainly the last 2 players of the year.

Not bullshit at all. Dean had a reputation for doing less with more. Was it justified? That’s up for debate. But he absolutely needed that second championship in ‘93.

And I could make a compelling case that Scheyer stepped into a much more difficult situation. You guys know all too well how hard it is to replace a legend.

Scheyer is getting baptized by fire. And I’m sure the criticisms are valid to those levying them. But he’s been pretty good for Duke, so I think I’ll just continue supporting him.

Only a dumbass dookie would come to a thread titled Fuck dOok and start talking smack after last night.

Look dumbass, you started this shit, I only held the mirror up to your bullshit back at you.

I will agree, that had the socials been around during Deans first 20 years he would have been excoriated - just as K would have been in the early 80’s. Dean was hung in effigy in his first few years.

Think on that, dumbass.

Now fuck right off before I go medieval on your ass

The worst of the worst are your tar heel allies that go out of their way phil8 d00scum trolls.

You have to admit if the roles were reversed and you lost your first round game, you would want UNC to lose.

In my bracket I had Duke losing in the next round.

Man hell yeah. I’m not mad at y’all. Not one bit. Yuck it up, have a ball. I would.

It’s all cyclical.

What smack did I talk? Your response would lead one to believe that you’re not as old as you claim to be.

Think on that.

I don't understand why people say it's so hard to replace a legend.

It is hard to win at the legend's clip. It's easy to get blamed for a downfall. But in general, it's much easier to win games when following a legend than not following a legend. You still get the recruiting bump from the legend.

He also had a reputation for doing more with less. The program developed a lot of talent over the years. Guys who were not heralded prospects ended up as star college players, first round NBA picks, etc. A lot of marginal UNC players hung around the league for a while.

The "less with more" reputation comes from two sources, I think. First, the 1977 title game when UNC had the best team in the country, and in particular considerably better than Marquette. Unfortunately, so many players were hurt or banged up that I can't hold the 1977 game against him.

The second is 1984. That was a screw up, no question. Dean should not have held MJ out the whole first half. That was a bad coaching job.

But then there were plenty of other seasons where they outperformed. For instance -- 1985, after losing Jordan and Perkins, we got to the Elite Eight, before running into the buzzsaw that was Villanova. We were probably the third best team in that tournament.

I used to love buying and reading those old ACC Handbooks at the start of each season. And the chapter on dook for the 83/84 season edition was basically about how if K didn't turn things around that season then he was probably gone. I remember that one sentence said something like "Krzyzewski knows the wolves are at the door." And of course it did turn around, but he was that close to being pushed out the door.
