My laugh of the day came from my sister. She sent this pic of a toilet she encountered in the ladies room at a Swiss ski resort.

She “encouraged that toilet?” Encouraged it how and to do what?

Reminds me of a campground toilet in France south of Paris in 1985. My buddy asked where the toilet was. I told him. He came back a few minutes later, “I couldn’t find the toilet.”

I showed him. Two small rectangular platforms for your feet and a hole. Cold water at the sink.

Pete was a bit aghast. He was a quite clean guy who liked hot showers and flush toilets.

Growing up, I hated using outhouses. By the time I was growing up, the only people using outhouses were those too cheap to pay for flush toilets and a septic tank. And if they were too cheap for flush toilets and a septic tank, then they were also too cheap to move the outhouse when it filled up. Just awful.

Making the situation worse was a woman whose father had "abandoned" her and her mother when she was very young. She had mental problems as an adult and once under hypnosis from her therapist as an adult said she remembered her father's face down in the outhouse. This story got back to the police. And while the police were digging up the site of the old outhouse, the mother comitted suicide. And yes, the police found a skeleton that was the father down below the old outhouse. The mother had killed her abusive husband, cut him up, and disposed of the parts in the outhouse. My dislike of outhouses increased even more after that news report.

Encountered, not encouraged, sorry.

My sister also pointed out the specific impracticality of using the lady urinal when you are dressed for skiing.
One of the great aspects of mountaineering apparel was the drop seats in the Gore-Tex bibs, fleece mid-layer, and longjohns - zip, zip (or unzip?), unsnap, unsnap……squat, poop.

And, you had acres of snow to wipe with……refreshing AND cleansing. A mountaineering bidet! If a crevasse is near, please drop ALL into it.

I'm assuming it's a typo and he meant encountered. Just as I meant last instead of lady. Swipe on the phone is pretty good, but sometimes I believe it's programmed to try and punk us for not proofreading.
