A few of you didn't like my original post but my point was pain isn't here yet. As of this morning my portfolio is up $12K from January 1st but gas is getting into the zone where people complain. If we have another week where prices rise and the markets drop people in both parties will start to get upset. I'm not talking about random post from twitter I am talking about people I deal with every day; it will become the major conversation topic. Last week people in my area generally supported Trump and Iran, let their pockets start getting hurt it it will flip
And I dont think the flipping matters unless Congress is willing to remove him from office. Trump himself is too far gone to care what any voters (including his base) think.

Which I feel is inherently evil. Greed is one of the purest forms of evil
Greed has existed in every economic system in human history. What’s specific to capitalism is the mechanism by which it gets expressed and amplified. Calling it evil doesn’t explain why prices behave the way they do or point toward anything that would change it.

Yeah, most gas stations don’t make much money off of gas. They make most of their money off of the convenient store side and other items. With that said, low gas prices helps to attract the customer.
I’ve never in my life heard anyone compare prices of the fountain drinks, chips, or peanut M&Ms at different gas stations but there’s no shortage of people who will curiously brag about saving 9 cents a gallon by refueling at some hole in the wall station that’s 17 miles away from their normal route to work.

The fascination with the cheapest tank of gas in town has always been a mystery to me

Sometimes I feel you argue semantics just because....

But whatever

Did that math a long time ago. I usually fill up when I'm down to a quarter tank so about 8 gallons. Rounding off, if gas is 3 bucks and you get 30 mpg, it's a dime a mile fuels costs with wear and time extra. That means I can go 8 miles out of my way to save 10 cents a gallon before I lose money.

Diesel was $4.99 beginning of this past week, went down to $4.19 and is now going back up. Just drove by the main station near me and it is now $4.59.
