Gaza Board of Peace | Trump $1 Billion shakedown

“… The organization was envisioned as part of the United Nations–backed effort for the reconstruction and transitional governance of Gaza. But the new board’s charter, details of which have not been previously reported, appears to give the board a global remit, according to a copy we reviewed. And the price of a permanent position on the board is very steep….

The charter’s membership section, written in legalese that sounds not unlike an application to join the committee of an upscale golf club, says members will be invited by the chairman to participate for a three-year term, subject to renewal by Trump.

But there is a way to skip the renewals and lock in for the long term: “The three-year membership term shall not apply to Member States that contribute more than USD $1,000,000,000 in cash funds to the Board of Peace within the first year of the Charter’s entry into force.”

What the money will be used for isn’t stated….”

“… The first paragraph of the preamble states that “durable peace requires pragmatic judgment, common-sense solutions, and the courage to depart from approaches and institutions that have too often failed.”

And, in case you missed the dig, a little lower the preamble talks of the need for “a more nimble and effective international peace-building body.”“

“… The document, obtained by The Times of Israel and reviewed by Belaaz, outlines a major departure from established diplomatic protocols. While the body was ostensibly commissioned by the UN Security Council in November to oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, the charter itself contains no specific references to the Strip, instead outlining a broad global mandate to intervene in areas “affected or threatened by conflict.”

The charter codifies a governance structure centered almost entirely on the persona of the Chairman. Article 3.2(a) designates President Donald Trump as the “inaugural Chairman” while simultaneously allowing him to serve as the representative of the United States.

This dual role is bolstered by Article 3.1(e), which subjects all majority decisions by member states to the “approval of the Chairman.” This effectively grants the Chairman veto power over the Board’s operations, regardless of the consensus among member nations. Furthermore, Article 7 designates the Chairman as the “final authority” on interpreting the charter, precluding oversight by independent judicial bodies.

The organization’s existence is structurally tenuous. Under Article 10.2, the Board of Peace is set to dissolve automatically at the end of every odd-numbered calendar year unless explicitly renewed by the Chairman. This “sunset” mechanism ensures that the continuation of the body remains at the sole discretion of the U.S. President.…”

Why would anyone (other than Trump) sign up for this?

Worth noting that Trump can't control the money without Congress' assent. Embezzling money for his own use is not part of his official duties and he can and will be prosecuted if this goes anywhere.

Kind of like he can’t control his slush fund in Qatar from Venezuelan oil sales?

Why the Trump administration is holding millions of dollars from Venezuelan oil sales in a Qatari bank

“… The Trump administration confirmed the first sale of Venezuelan oil Wednesday, saying it raised $500 million. It is just the first of numerous sales expected to bring in billions of dollars in the months – and potentially years – to come.

The funds were sent to Qatar, rather than being held in US banks or sent directly to Venezuela, according to a former administration official familiar with the matter. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told Newsmax Wednesday evening that the cash from the oil sales would start to flow into Venezuela as soon as Thursday. Venezuelan banks have started advertising cash, suggesting the oil proceeds have arrived in the country, two sources with knowledge of Venezuela’s financial system said.…”

“… The Qatari banks holding the funds have been instructed to auction the money to Venezuelan banks, giving priority to food, medicine and small businesses, according to Alejandro Grisanti, founding director of Ecoanalitica, a Latin and South American consultant that operates in Venezuela, among other countries. That money will be collected by the Central Bank of Venezuela and allocated according to the requirements set by the United States, Grisanti said.

Bessent told Newsmax the proceeds will fund Venezuela’s government operations, security and food provisions.

The White House would not comment directly on the funds going to a bank in Qatar before they are paid out to Venezuela.

… Some critics of the Trump administration are questioning Trump’s motivation to send the money to Qatar.

“There is no basis in law for a president to set up an offshore account that he controls so that he can sell assets seized by the American military,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a Massachusetts Democrat, in a comment to Semafor, which first reported the money going to Qatar. “That is precisely a move that a corrupt politician would be attracted to.”“

I am sure Congress will get right on that after the gop in the house finish passing their bills declaring Greenland a state without their consent.
