I guess we can't be sure about anything regarding the mindset or awareness of other people (and oftentimes ourselves), but my dad is in the middle stages of Alzheimers (and 10 years younger than Hackman) and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't really "know" or register it if I died. Short term memory is gone, and sounds like Hackman was much further along than my dad...
