General Lawn thread

So does anyone have a recommendation for a lawn company in the Triangle?
Fairway green did a good job for us. I stopped them because I thought I could do the job myself. When it turns into a weed farm in a couple of years, I'll probably go back.

I cannot give a more negative recommendation for trugreen. They were terrible.

Ban lawn chemicals! Environmental destruction in the service of superficial vanity.
Go smaller lawns and you don't have to use tons of pesticides, only when necessary. More pesticides are used on food crops than turf, worse things in our AC units etc.. act responsibly

There are some natural items that have little or no impact.

I've greatly reduced my use. I stopped using insecticides, I am trying to create an environment for pollinators. I've planted plants that repel mosquitos. Etc.

I do still use something for the fungus. I've tried natural remedies for fungus, but they just don't work.

I've taken this approach also. I've reduced the amount of grass in my yard by 40%, creating beds full of trees, bushes, and perennials. Lots of color.

If my HOE would allow it, I would probably go more natural with the lawn.

Know a few folks who have/still use Fairway Green. No complaints. Don't know if Sam ? is still the owner but he was a stand up guy from what I heard.

If we do, I need help on how to eliminate invasive climbing vines. So far, the only remedy has been a hard frost.

My Bermuda usually looks pretty good but the weeds really took over this year.

I didn’t use the preemergent I usually use but instead just took the weed and feed route. Just didn’t work. I imagine someone is going to say that those are post emergent herbicides.

Anyway will get it under control next year.

Anyone else ever owned or wanted to own one of those gas powered reel mowers?

I would love to cut my Bermuda really short so it looks like a fairway. I am too haphazard with my mower running over sticks and stuff and I probably couldn’t take care of one of them so owning one probably isn’t in the cards.

But it would be sweet.

So I have Bermuda in the back and I'm going Bermuda in the front. I too have plenty of weeds this year. What do I need to do?

So not lawn, but patio...I'm sure you all want to be just as grossed out as me.

I recently had this bulge in my brickwork, so I pulled up the bricks and dug around a bit, and under the vapor barrier there was this mound of grubs. Apparently beetle grubs dig down and lay their eggs and they grow like this.

I was reading up on how to deal with it but couldn't get around to it for a few days, so I just left it, and when I checked back, some animal had come along, continued the digging and apparently had a feast because they're all gone.

Yum. What did the bulge look like? Was it like a bubble in one of the bricks or was the wall pushed out?

It's been a miserable season for weeds. The mini drought surrounded by tons of wet. Just sucks

You also need really smooth and even ground. Irregularities in the group make the cut uneven.

My son lives next to a guy that works for John Deere . His lawn literally looks like a putting green-very short cut I assumme he has a fancy grass cutting machine

I managed to over fertilize my lawn this spring, burnt 50% of it. Has been an absolute mess, had aeration scheduled for last week. Got rained out. Rescheduled for this week, rained out. I'm having 10 yards of topsoil delivered tomorrow and am going to spend the rest of the week spreading it over my lawn instead. Wild weather!
