General Lawn thread

Took 4 years in my case for it to completely take over but mine was a big yard. But again, it just depends on how much you plant. Think of it as a checker board. The more you and plant and closer together, the quicker it will be.

I planted it in fescue because as others have mentioned, fescue is really hard to keep up in a non shaded lawn. It takes tons of water if not mostly shaded. I too wanted green grass year round at first but came to hate the fescue because of the amount of watering I had to do and you have to let the fescue stay tall which sucked w dogs and kids playing in it all the time.
Fescue is also clumpy. I want kids to be able to play wiffle ball and football in the yard. Fescue is terrible for that.

Given, I don’t have kids that will play like that but I still want a yard where one could.

What do you use to spray on your Zoysia for weeds?

I got Celsius WG but you definitely can't overdo the mix or it turns into a death spray for everything
That is what I use for Bermuda. Works well for it.

It is hard to mix though. Takes so little powder for a 2 gallon sprayer.

Man you ain’t kidding! We’ve got zoysia at the house we just moved to and not only does it look magnificently emerald green but it feels like walking on carpet barefoot.
Best grass ever to play golf on too. Grows almost anywhere. When I re-sod my back yard its going to be zoysia.

I think some of the hybrid Bermudas are best if you have a powered reel mower and can mow it really short twice or more a week. But for normal lawns Zoysia is great.

Suddenly I have a zillion mole/vole? tunnels in the grassy areas of my front lawn. So I got some store bought poison and shoved it in randomly..Next day there is a dead squirrel-which bums me-and I don't know yet if I got the nasty voles

I faught them one summer. Some of the traps available are medieval torture devices reincarnated.

I didn't want to just killing them. I finally found something that didn't kill them but ran them off, I believe, because of the smell. It worked well. Sorry I don't recall the product name. I also used smoke bombs that seemed to help.

Letting a few hungry rat snakes loose is also a surefire solution to that problem.

I mean I don't think those shock traps torture them. They basically die instantly and go to chipmunk heaven where there are endless gardens of low hanging tomatoes for them to feast upon.

I just removed on from my downstairs bathroom. Sitter was freaking out. I took it out of the neighborhood into the woods. I really wanted to let it loose in my back yard but the ex wouldn’t have any of that.

I bought Quinclorac to get rid of my massive crabgrass issue in my Zenith Zoysia this year. Celsius will get the broadleaf weeds and poa annua but doesn't really kill mature crabgrass

Quinc has been fantastic. In one week 80% of the crabgrass is gone. I will do a second application to get the rest but the Zoysia was unbothered.

It's expensive, but the good selective herbicides all are...
