Note that this really is a 5 pm tip off in the Dean E. Smith Student Activities Center in Chapel Hill. Carolina holds an all-time 4-5 record versus the Hoyas (what the hell is a hoya?), one of the few schools where that is the case (i.e., a losing tally overall). We haven’t played since 2007 when we lost to them 96-84 in a painful overtime collapse. I was in town for 1982 (Thank You Patrick Ewing and thank you MJ) This addition of the men in gray sports a 6-2 record. They have beaten Kentucky, Maryland, and Clemson and have lost to Miami. They should not be taken lightly. No let-up. They start a tandem of 6-7 men at the forward slots (#7 Isaiah Abraham 6-7 6.1 ppg and #4 Caleb Williams 6-7 12.8 ppg, 6 rpg) and a fleetingly familiar name in the pivot, once a Carolina prospect, a 7-foot Kiwi, #11 Julius Halaifonua 7-0 (8 ppg, 5 rpg). Their offense comes out of the backcourt in #2 Malik Mack 6-2 (16.8 ppg, 4.6 apg) and #5 KJ Lewis 6-4 (16.4 ppg 6 rpg). They score within the arc in the main with the team only shooting 31% from Three (Mack, C.Williams, and Lewis are not shy though and will chunk it and have, on occasion, hit – Williams leads the team with 41% on 32 shots – in not-s-much-contrast Carolina shoots 32% from beyond the arc with Derek Dixon leading the squad at 45% followed by Jonathan Powell at 35% [Bogavac is hitting 34%]). This is a middling team that had some promise until it lost a solid big man to an undisclosed malady (#3 Vince Iwuchukwu 7-1 11.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg) probably heart-related. He was with them for those impressive earlier-in-the-season wins. Biorhythmically they are fairly low with only KJ Lewis showing good arcs (along with injury-plagued but wonderfully named Langston Love, a benchman). Rhythms across the board are hardly soaring for this later afternoon tilt.

Frontcourt: Veesaar must be acing his exams because his Intel is humming at 85 while Zayden High scored at a 95 clip in that thoughtful category. James Brown looks steady overall. Caleb Wilson is all below the fold for this mid-finals contest. Jarin Stevenson is in the doldrums.

Wings: Bogavac is biorhythmically low as well but first man off the bench among wings Jonathan Powell has the best arcs on the team. Seldom used Jaydon Young out of Goldsboro has a good cluster of marks as well should he see time.

Guards: Kyan Evans arcs continue their dip (good news is that it is upward from here) but Derek Dixon looks ready to play smartly again with a solid Intel arc for today. It’ll be nice to have trimble back for so many reasons.

Overall: There are a lot of bad biorhythms gathered for today’s game on both sides of the aisle. Powell, Young, Dixon, and Veesaar are the most promising Heels. This may be a sloppy contest – often during exam season practice times are disrupted by the irregular schedule of testing and teams can be thrown off by that (and yes, I do believe that Carolina is still engaged in the academic side of student-athlete though I wonder how much longer that will endure as the professionalization of this genre of basketball continues apace). Your biorhythmic interpreter is himself engaged in some pretty intense exam-related activities at present so this sort of things weighs heavily on my own worldview. Carolina ought to win this but don’t be surprised if they struggle and something akin to playing tennis with Herb (IYKYK), often referred to as Nega-Tennis sets in and this game becomes painful. If it does not then count yourself lucky and these young men remarkable. Carolina 11.5 say the Gamblers. The Ritmos say a win by 8 by the Heels.

Still hate this offense that Hubert is using. They don't have the shooters and scorers outside of Wilson and Veesaar to run a pro style offense. Everyone without the ball is just standing around. No cuts, screens or movement off the ball.

Pretty big changes in our rotation tonight.

Veesaar has looked gassed from the get go - half a step slow. Wonder if he is sick?
