There is none. There was a comment from a Congressional Republican (anonymous, of course) just the other day that maybe if the Democrats win control of Congress this year they can do something to stop Trump, because they (Republicans) "can't" (won't) do anything themselves. They're all so terrified of his MAGA base and getting primaried by an even loonier Trumper (if that's possible) if they stand up to Dear Leader that they have no spine or backbone whatsoever. The GOP is a quasi-religious cult of personality and no longer a traditional political party, plain and simple. And it as been for some time. In the 2020 election the GOP didn't write a new party platform for the first time ever, instead they announced that they would just re-use their 2016 platform and add to it that they supported whatever Trump (Dear Leader) supported. Their only current guiding principles and beliefs are to do whatever Trump wants and to support his beliefs and actions to the hilt. There is nothing else anymore.
There is a tipping point. It isn’t principled. It is the point where being loyal to Trump becomes a liability rather than an asset.

A war with NATO would do it IMO. It would be really ugly and unlike the bravado you hear from idiots, both sides would pay a huge price.

I mentioned the war game where Sweden’s sub navigated through our carrier group and was in position to sink our aircraft carrier. That was 20 years ago but demonstrates that NATO (even without US) consists of professional and advanced armies. Their combined forces are larger than ours. We have a huge advantage in logistics but many are known to have more highly trained non special forces infantry.

If we got a carrier sunk or something similar, support would drop instantly.

But it wouldn’t take that. If we invade Greenland Europe would likely have a hundred thousand US troops as POW’s in Europe.

Trump in Davos:

“… So what we have gotten out of NATO is nothing except to protect Europe from the Soviet Union and now Russia. I mean, we’ve helped them for so many years. We’ve never gotten anything except we pay for NATO and we’ve paid for many years until I came along. We paid for, in my opinion, one hundred percent of NATO because they weren’t paying their bills.

And all we’re asking for is to get Greenland, including right title and ownership, because you need the ownership to defend it. You can’t defend it on a lease. Number one, legally, it’s not defensible that way. Totally. And number two, psychologically, who the hell wants to defend a license agreement or a lease, which is a large piece of ice in the middle of the ocean where, if there is a war, much of the action will take place on that piece of ice. Think of it. Those missiles would be flying right over the center of that piece of ice.…”

He compared the attitude of US Trump supporters he’s met here to that of a “serial abuser,” saying one top US executive had told him, “this is how it’s going to be: we’re going to beat up on you [Europe]; it’s going to hurt - then we’re going to beat up on you some more. You’re going to squeal. And then we’re going to do some kind of a deal on our terms.”

He added,

“They’re just simply saying, ‘you have to accept this is how we are now. This is what it’s like’.”

“I think people will use better judgment, their best judgment and I don’t think uhhh that won’t be necessary.”
