God, what bullshit. As I (and others) have pointed out, the USA has guaranteed Greenland's security for decades - at least since the Second World War, and so has Canada, for that matter. We've been willing to help Denmark defend the island for generations, and it is no more in danger of being "taken" by Russia or China today that it's ever been. To do so they would have to get though not only Denmark's forces, but America, Canada, and likely at least some EU members. There is no danger of Russia or China taking Greenland anytime soon - that's just a bullshit excuse for Trump to seize it.

Denmark broke UN protocol 80 years ago so now we must break international laws? I’m sure that line will work in the MAGA faithful, though.
I suspect the Trump Administration may be trying to leverage the vocal independence movement in Greenland, which has been advocating for independence from Denmark, to drive a wedge between Denmark and Greenland. They may also view an independent Greenland as an easier target for diplomatic or other U.S. takeover and control.

Denmark reoccupied Greenland in 1945 before there was a UN and obviously before there was a UN protocol.

He's probably referring to a protocol through the UN that saw many European colonies go independent. Denmark successfully argued that Greenland wasn't an exploited colony like the more common ones in Africa and Asia. So they followed UN protocol all be it a modified one from other colonial powers granting Independence to their colonies.

Greenland moved from colony status to part of the mother country when Denmark eventually integrated Greenland as a separate county and gave them two seats in Parliament in 1953. Then Greenland decided they wanted home rule and got it in 1979 but were still part of Denmark. Maybe most importantly, Greenland achieved a right to self-determination in 2009 from Denmark. It would be against international law and unconstitutional for Denmark to sell it without approval from Greenland citizens.

Today most Greenlanders would like to gain independence from Denmark. Most also have no interest in joining the United States and it has been polled.

Trump wants Greenland because it is “psychologically important” to him.

He also said he wasn’t against using nuclear forces.

People who think this is all just a distraction need to wake the f’ up. IMO this is 100% real.

And Trump won’t stop at Greenland. If he isn’t opposed that will be a sign that he can just take Canada.

Then Mexico, and on and on…

And yet MAGA supporters will say it is necessary for our future to have Greenland. They will excuse Trump's bluster as just a show. "I wish he wouldn't use that language, but he is right."

Then they will excuse and support the next stupid idea. And so on. That is the true Trump Derangement Syndrome.

Russia stoking the flames. Trump and MAGA will buy this hook, line, and sinker.

I feel like we are all watching the Russian roadrunner paint the tunnel on the side of the boulder while also watching Trump don the coyote suit and stretching his hammies.

Hard to wade through the bullshit sometimes.
I hear you. This morning and my wife was talking how apparently World Cup ticket sales were crumbling based on some bluesky post she saw. I had to inform her that the only sources of that were beyond sketchy news sites, full of AI slop.

The POTUS himself and his spokeswoman have been talking about taking over Greenland the “easy way or the hard way” in the last 24 hours …

“Transparent” is not the word I would use for someone who says whatever comes to mind at any time. This is as close to criticizing Trump for being a moron as Johnson is likely to ever come.
