John Mac Ghlionn is a fool.
I think he is right that we have to end up with it. I think he is wrong on the no matter how part. The entire thing has just been handled so poorly. We could have just picked up the phone and handled all of it behind the scenes without having to come off as an asshole. We made it infinitely more difficult than is necessary and no matter what happens, we will now be the bad guy.

We've done just fine without owning Greenland since our founding, mainly because Greenland's rightful owner, Denmark, is a longtime ally of the USA, and because we have always made it clear that any attempt by a hostile power to seize Greenland would be met by American (and very probably Canadian) military force. There is no need whatsoever for us to just take over the country, especially given that it would end our alliance with a longtime friendly nation and turn most of Europe against us to an extent not seen in our lifetimes. There is no valid reason for us to do this - it's about Trump's ego and the greed of plutocrat billionaires for access to Greenland's natural resources, assuming they can get at most of it beneath the island's vast ice sheet.

John Mac Ghlionn’s bio on the James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal says this about Mac Ghlionn:

“John Mac Ghlionn is a psychosocial researcher and essayist. His work has been published, among others, by the New York Post, Sydney Morning Herald, Newsweek, National Review, and the Spectator US. He covers psychology and social relations, and has a keen interest in social dysfunction and media manipulation.”

I’m assuming Mr. Mac Ghlionn is able to edit his bio on the Martin Center’s site. What are his credentials? Does he have foreign policy experience and expertise? What are his degrees? From which institutions?

Why do we "have to end up with it"? Since when does any nation have the right to just unilaterally decide that another nation should be "ours"? That kind of thinking is lunacy unless you just want to launch a completely unstable future where every nation is forced into empire building simply so they aren't the next one swallowed.

To be fair, I’m sure this is an idea he’s had for a long time and didn’t just start believing it for the first time the minute it came out of Trump’s stupid fat face.

IIRC, he wrote an op-ed about how Taylor Swift wasn't a good role model for women because, at the time, she was in her early 30s and was unmarried. Mmmmkay....let's see if Ms Swift manages to make something of herself.

I’m convinced this is all because he’s dying soon so guess rushing to fulfill his dream of being an imperialist dictator like Putin before it happens. His terribly fragile ego wants him to acquire something big for the us before he goes as “legacy”

I can’t think of anything other than his ego as a reason that this is happening
