We'd have had 13 years to monitor developments and diplomatically work out solutions going forward while not turning Iran into a heavily-sanctioned pariah state, that increasingly felt the need to lash out, at the behest of the said fucktard's blackmailers and bribers in Tel Aviv and Riyadh.
And Holy crap with the nonsense about them actually using a nuke. Despots who rule enormous countries are not street-level lunatics. They are devious, Machiavellian operators who enjoy the attainment and possession of power. They often use apocalyptic terminology to fire up their power base against real or perceived enemies - see, for instance Donald John Drumpf - but they aren't about to actually do anything that would result in their swift and assured demise. Believing otherwise is childish, Manichean thinking.
Iran will likely have nuclear weapons at some point, as will other theocratic regimes. This idiotic war makes that all but a certainty since they will view possession of them as the only possible means of not being subjected to the will of larger powers, and we have neither the ability nor the will to prevent this indefinitely. It is so far down the list of things I worry about personally or for my children or grandchildren that it barely registers. It is several orders of magnitude lower than the threat this clownshow regime in our country poses to our future, and the fact that so many of my fellow citizens are so fucking stupid they support these absolute incompetent fools.
