Good faith privately-funded White House ballroom discussion

Is that tomorrow as in within the next 24 hours, or is it "tomorrow" like when Trump gives two weeks or Coach K suspends Greyson Allen indefinitely? Just wondering whether I should break out my fancy popcorn or just the shitty microwave variety.

Where is the complexity in this issue? Besides it’s (1) trump, and (2) the fear of pay for play, what are the left’s objections rooted in?

Maybe that 1)The East Wing as it was should never have been torn down, especially given that Trump did not follow the correct procedure to do so and never gave any notice that he was going to tear it down - he just sent in the equipment and leveled it with no notice. 2) What he wants to build will be larger than the White House itself and will be a gaudy monstrosity with no style, class, elegance, or any of the traits usually associated with the "people's house", as the White House used to be called. 3) Virtually no one outside Trump's circle and the commission that he packed with lackeys has had any input about what the building should look like or what functions it should serve. The initial architect quit after clashing with Trump over the size of the building, which will be larger than the WH. Trump has literally made it his personal pet project and obsession, with no outside influence. And that's not his prerogative, as the White House and its grounds aren't his personal property to do with as he wishes on a whim. This isn't Trump Tower or Mar-A-Lago. And, finally, 4) It is clear that this building is nothing but a payoff and shakedown from his rich buddies in exchange for government favors. You can argue that's not clear, but given the history of his two terms of course it is. This is nothing more than a massive Trump vanity project, and the fact that he is so obsessed with it that he's using an assassination attempt in a pathetic effort to sell it reveals as much about his real priorities as anything that he's done. He wants to build monuments to himself, not help improve the country in any way. But as long as it owns the libs and pisses them off it's all A-OK, amirite?

Besides fear of pay for play?

Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?

These are people who fight tooth and nail to save a few hundred thousand in income taxes. Now they are willing to donate multiple millions to the government?

Besides, I do not for a second believe the project is entirely or even mostly privately funded. I will make you a bet that in 5 years, we will know that exponentially more in public funds was spent on the project than private funds.

Furthermore, the ballroom is so out of scale with the remainder of the White House that it will absolutely ruin the architectural character of the entire building. It is ugly. It is gaudy. It is completely without thought for anything other than Donald Trump's ego.

The ballroom proposal
Trump publicly suggested building a large ballroom onto the White House.
He claimed he would be willing to help fund or donate toward it himself (similar to past offers he made for renovations).
💰 Would he have made money from it?
Evidence suggesting no financial benefit
The White House is government property, not privately owned.
Any construction would be:
Controlled by the federal government
Subject to contracting rules and oversight

There’s no record of Trump arranging contracts for his own companies to build it.

No formal project was approved or executed.

Pay for play happens every day in both parties. Don’t be hypocritical. Pubs were kicking and screaming about contributions to the Clinton foundation. Bloomberg gave approx. 60 million to the dem party. Those donations are made to acquire favors and influence. You either call it all out or accept it is part of the American political process.

The rest of your concerns seem trump related.

1, 2, & 3 are due to trump. You don’t like his idea or what he wants it to look like or he didn’t follow the path you think he should have. Nothing more than i don’t like what he wants.

4 is pay for play which I have addressed in other posts. You can disagree with it (I do). But you can’t be hypocritical about it. I’m all for changing the entire system that allows pay for play.

I do despise every single mega donor to every party. I would institute a wealth tax tomorrow and have the wealth of every billionaire. I would eliminate all political giving and all lobbying. Every bit of it. I can also recognize that this is a whole other level. This administration literally makes payola the only way anything works.

Dismissing the concerns about the building's integrity as Trump concerns are not a good faith argument. Is the architectural beauty of the center of our governance important to you or not?
