“Maybe all these constituents are lying to me but I would appreciate if the American media showed up and did some real investigation rather than amplifying the worst people in the world. Why is somebody calling in a bomb threat, Margaret? It’s because they want attention. …”

Also Vance (Earlier this morning to CNN) — I made up stories because I want attention on my other immigration claims …

Vance continues “I think that we should ignore these ridiculous psychopaths who are threatening violence on a small Ohio town and focus on the fact that we have a. Ice President who’s not doing her job of protecting that small Ohio town.”

So, if I have this straight, we should ignore bomb threats and instead blame Harris for not protecting the town receiving the bomb threats because of your rhetoric (based on rumors you amplified into “stories” to get attention)?

Musk is reprehensible. And because he does it the lemmings further believe it
Other than the creation of Fox News back in the 90s, Musk buying Twitter has been one of the worst things to happen in American media in decades, and perhaps ever. Like Fox, he's given a powerful global platform to all sorts of right-wing bigots, wackos, conspiracy theorists, plutocrats, and all the rest.

It's awful. I really wish media and celebrities and all would migrate elsewhere (not threads because Zuckerberg is gross as well)

His CNN interview was a disaster for him, imo. The host repeatedly questioned him and he had a hard time defending himself, and was finally reduced to attacking the host for not letting him speak enough. The part where he said that he and Trump had created the stories in Springfield about immigrants doing bad things (right after he claimed that his constituents were reporting these stories), and the host called him out on it, was particulary bad for him, as he kept an awkward silence for a couple of seconds before finally responding. He also admitted that he hasn't actually been to Springfield to investigate these supposed claims. It was pretty bad.

They both go a little further back but, imo, had more impact. One was the repeal of the Fair Time Doctrine and the other was the birth of 24 hour news. You not only had the opportunity to create unbalanced "news" shows but entirely too much time to fill. Just the volume and over explanations were enough to confuse almost everyone about almost everything even without the mendacity.

Normies in general need to abandon twitter. I deleted my account months and months ago. Every possible advertising penny needs to be taken away. Let ELon go bankrupt keeping it afloat, but everyone else just has to stop giving it hits.

It does have free porn though lol

Gift Link: How the False Story of a Gang ‘Takeover’ in Colorado Reached Trump

“… Mike Coffman, the conservative Republican mayor of Aurora, Colo., said he was at home on Tuesday night watching the presidential debate and bracing for the worst.

And then there it was again, before tens of millions of viewers: former President Donald J. Trump, describing Mr. Coffman’s Aurora, a sprawling suburb just east of Denver, as a city under siege, terrorized by migrants.

“They’re taking over buildings,” Mr. Trump said. “They’re going in violently.”

Mr. Coffman was contrite on Thursday as he told that story. After all, he had helped create the tall tale now sullying his city’s reputation.

… Caught in the middle are a number of migrants, living in dilapidated apartments that Aurora officials now call squalor, amid “criminal elements,” not widespread gang activity, and unable to find or afford better. The buildings are nonetheless at the center of a national firestorm.

… Meantime, the mayor has started a crusade to try to undo the damage Mr. Trump is inflicting.

“I mean, I agree with him on a lot of policies as it pertains to immigration,” Mr. Coffman said in City Hall on Thursday. “But I’m also the mayor of the City of Aurora, and my job is not only to make sure that the city is safe, but also to protect the image of the city. This narrative out there is exaggerated, and it’s our responsibility to correct it.” …”

Well, the Fairness Doctrine was an FCC rule that only applied to FCC-licensed broadcast channels so it wouldn't have applied to cable news anyway. But I agree that Ted Turner had no idea where his concept of a 24 hour news channel was going to lead.

That's true but it did signal a change in what was acceptable and eliminated any chance that it would be expanded.

“…
The claims about Aurora were spun out of real issues.

The Denver area has struggled to deal with an influx of about 40,000 migrants, many of whom had been sent inland by Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas.

The soaring cost of housing, acute in Denver, had brought many of those new arrivals to Aurora looking for somewhere cheaper to live — right to those same ramshackle apartments the city was already fighting to get cleaned up.

On Thursday, one resident of the complex, Star Lopez, 29, was gingerly walking her three dogs through a tiny stretch of dirt and weeds — and piles of dog feces — between two of the buildings where the video was captured. Inside the nondescript three-story brick structures, flies swarmed. Most apartments had broken windows, no screens, and doors ajar with no functioning locks or even doorknobs.

… But there were no armed men blocking passage or extorting rent or protection money, Ms. Lopez said, despite what conservative media has said. Most of the residents at this point are squatters.

“Oh, it’s taken over, but it’s taken over by everybody,” Ms. Lopez said, freely admitting she hadn’t paid rent since November, and adding that most of the neighbors hadn’t either. “It’s survival of the fittest.”

… Nearby, an onlooker from Colorado Springs who declined to give his name gawked and took pictures.

He was at the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital nearby and “thought I’d stop by,” he said. “I was expecting to see vigilantes all over the place, people on the rooftops with machine guns.” …”
