Hanna-Barbera? Looney Tunes?

Loved Looney Tunes and alternately Johnny Quest. Saw an interesting documentary on the latter recently--it broke a lot of ground and had sensational music.

But speaking of the music, what Carl Stalling did for the Looney Tunes cartoons has since been recognized as true musical genius. I listen to it still from time to time.

Looney Tunes cartoons , or at least the music in them, is what got me interested in classical music.

I always liked Looney Tunes better than Hanna Barbera.

But these were top quality cartoons...

Remember when mighty mouse was sad because his GF broke up with him so he sniffed cocaine and flew away happy?

I always wondered why it was pulled off the air and in the late 90s bored to tears bc my last exam was the literal last exam of the fall semester and no one was around, I found a article about why it was pulled. It didn't just describe what happened, it had still frame shots of him pulling a Tony Montana sized mound of coke from under his cape, sniffing it, and flying away high AF!

Was that during the Ralph Bakshi run?

On a slight tangent - Might Mouse was what got me into superheroes in the first place. For those who don't know, I have a rather substantial comic book collection. Over the last year, I have focused primarily on original art and high grade golden age CGC books. This was my recent birthday present to myself:

Idk...I was like 7-8 when it was pulled and 21 when I found the article online. I have zero clue who the artist was for the TV cartoon.

I was kind of surprised to learn that Bakshi had worked on the show from '87-'88. I was mostly watching other things by that point, but Bakshi would become one of my favorite animators as a teen (first with Wizards and his LOTR stuff, and later with American Pop and some of his weirder stuff). I'd like to go back and rewatch his run on the show. Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures - Wikipedia

Yes! under the controversy tab it talks about the cocaine sniffing. I guess I misremembered...he was sniffing a crushed flower but it was pulled anyway bc it resembled cocaine.

Thanks! I hadn't gotten that far into the wikipedia page. Checks out. I love Bakshi's response:

"You could pick a still out of Lady and the Tramp and get the same impression. Fritz the Cat wasn't pornography. It was social commentary. This all smacks of burning books and the Third Reich. It smacks of McCarthyism. I'm not going to get into who sniffs what. This is lunacy!"

Bakshi defended the episode, saying, "I despise drugs. I would be out of my mind to show a cartoon character snorting cocaine in a cartoon," and stating that Wildmon had interpreted the scene out of context. "Mighty Mouse was happy after smelling the flowers because it helped him remember the little girl who sold it to him fondly. But even if you're right, their accusations become part of the air we breathe. That's why I cut the scene. I can't have children wondering if Mighty Mouse is using cocaine."
