I was thinking of putting this in my Here Be Dragons thread, but put it here, as a metaphor for the brand-spanking-new year(s) ahead.

Living in downtown Houston, we walk to a steakhouse around 8 for dinner. Home by 10. Watch Andy and Anderson and when the ball drops in NYC, we call it a year [even though there's one more hour here].

Robert Creeley’s “I Know a Man.” It is short. Read to the end. His poems are jazz. Happy New Year.

“I Know a Man

As I sd to my

friend, because I am

always talking - John, I

sd, which was not his

name, the darkness sur-

rounds us, what

can we do against

it, or else, shall we &

why not, buy a goddamn big car,”

I’ve definitely gotten to the point where”It’s Midnight Somewhere” approach (especially busy work days like today) and hit the sack knowing 2025 already arrived a few timezones away if I don’t make it to see the ball drop (though most years I still do make it for some reason).

My daughter is out of town, but my son, wife, and I are either going to order in and watch a movie, or go out for dinner and then watch a movie at home.

Went to the first two Phish shows at the Garden this weekend, I'm too old for a four night run these days, but will probably listen to tonight's show on Sirius if I can stay up..

Checking in from Vero Beach, Florida here. Recovering from pneumonia, taking a break from helping my stepdad organize hospice care for my ailing mom. I’ve had better NYEs…but hey, another day will dawn on another year tomorrow, and the world will keep turning.

Happy new years, all!
