Have you coached before?

I just remembered
When my boy played Little League in Pittsboro I was a a dad that showed up at practice and games and helped
No way those boys that were coaching would call me a coach- a helper Dad
That's how I wound up coaching Little League. Started out as helper dad and then a couple of coaches realized that I knew as more or more than they did. Had to bite my tongue early on when one of the actual coaches was teaching 2 seam and 4 seam fastball grips backwards.

Rainbow Soccer in the early 1990’s count? Knew nothing much about strategy so drew a diamond on the yellow pad! I explained or at least tried to explain to 7 y/o players that when the ball was on our side we kicked to the side line and when we got it on their side we kicked towards the middle!
We were killing the competition to the point Vickie(who ran Rainbow) told me Rainbow wasn’t about winning or losing? I played every player pretty much equal minutes but that was my last season as a coach! My daughter went on to letter in Soccer/Basketball/volleyball at East CH and was also the “Powder Puff” QB!

She understood it was about winning!

I coached Rainbow Soccer during my time at Carolina...think it was all 4 years. Coached 5/6th graders one year, girls another year and then middle school boys two years. Had a lot of fun doing that, also let me play in the adult league (got several warnings for flaring out my elbows).

Have posted this elsewhere on this board.

I have coached pro basketball in Costa Rica for more than 20 years, most of those as Head Coach. I believe my tally as HC is more than 300 career games with a nearly 70% win rate. The past 4 years I have coached the CR National Mens Team, participating in almost 20 FIBA level games. I've also been an assistant for the Women's National Team, which was a neat experience.

I was a JV Manager at UNC back in the day and much of what I learned back then is applied to this day (including Be Yourself). It has been a very rewarding experience, even if there's a lot of crap I have to deal with on the admin side. I love connecting with my former players; I was considered one of the first "player-friendly" coaches down here.
