Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals to meet on short notice in Virginia

The email from his mother is devastating- I can’t imagine how bad things would need to get for a mother to send this to her son:

I listened to a podcast covering him last week. Essentially he’s extremely bitter that he didn’t get to live out his war hero fantasies in Iraq, and in his view wasn’t adequately rewarded for what he did do. So now he’s taking it out on the military at large.

More context

Honestly, I think Hegseth and Trump are just looking for applause from the military men. To say nothing of the ego stroking (and there's plenty of that), it's great propaganda and also a warning to foes both foreign and, maybe especially, domestic.
I don't think it's applause they want most. I think it's just the power trip from being able to order these guys around and hold the threat of ending any of their careers at any time over their heads.

Rambles about WWII ships in black and white movies.

trying to parse out his point: “… I think we should maybe start thinking about battleships by the way … I look at different ships, the old pictures … some people would say no, that’s old technology, I dunno, I don’t think it’s old technology when you look at those guns but it’s something we’re actually considering, battleships … your secretary [of the Navy] likes it and I’m sort of open to it and bullets are a lot less expensive than missiles … there were powers, they were big powers just about as mean and scary as they could be, so we’re looking at that …”

De-modernize our navy, I guess?

Holy shit. Battleships have been considered obsolete since 1943. They're even MORE obsolete in the age of aerial and torpedo drones. Our commander in chief has no CLUE about military matters.

Here it is:

It’s a meander, but to distill, he says he got 95% of the firefighter vote and they’re brave and in our inner cities which are part of war there are animals who shoot at firefighters, shoot bullets while they are on ladders and could fall (not to mention getting shot I guess) so that’s a big part of war

He returns to this, which seems to be a core point in as far as his speech is planned:

San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles … And this is going to be a major part for some of the people in this room. That’s a war too. It’s a war from within. Controlling the physical territory of our border is essential to national security we can’t let these people in …”

I'm six foot three and weigh 200 lbs. What's your point?

You're pretty obsessed with me personally. Oh well.
Yeah, so is Donald Trump. Y’all look similar from what I can tell! Must explain your crush on him.

Don’t flatter yourself, fella. It’s not that I’m with obsessed *with* you, it’s simply that I thoroughly enjoy talking shit to the most prolific, most moronic shitposter on this board. Sue me, counselor!

Trump is taunting military generals here to raise their hand if they don’t think Cain is doing a great job

“… [weird growl voice]I DON’T SEE ANY HANDS RAISED, [/growl off] alright, that means you’re OK , that means that he’s OK now…”

Right. Everything else is immaterial. This is the purpose for the meeting.

It's going to be fun when he and Bondi schedule one of these pep rallies for the Supreme Court justices.

I would expect that the naval officers in attendance have to be horrified about the idea that someone with such backwards ideas about naval strategy is in charge of the military. I just hope that this adds to the list of things that will keep much of the military from following any orders they might receive to turn their weapons on American civilians.

So he basically admits to thinking that US service members are chumps, as General Kelly has said.

Use American cities as training grounds for the U.S. military. Go back and re-read “Pete’s” comments earlier today about eliminating politically correct rules of engagement and lethality …

THIS IS MOSTLY STUFF HE IS CLEARLY READING

a great military tradition … from protecting frontier communities to chasing outlaws and bandits in the Wild West and our history is filled with military who took on all enemies, foreign and domestic … that’s what the oath says, foreign and domestic, well we also have domestic.

George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Grover Cleveland, Georgggggge Bush and others all used the armed forces to keep domestic order and peace. Many of our leaders used the military to keep peace. Now they like to say ‘Oh you’re not allowed to use the military to keep peace’ and you know what the people say, the people in those cities where they are being RAPED, SHOT, beta up, you know what they say? ‘We love the military’ … I’ve never seen somebody say they don’t unless they’re radical and paid off because a lot of these INSURRECTIONISTS are paid by, whether it’s Soros or other people
