Hegseth ordered hundreds of generals to meet on short notice in Virginia

My wife had a pot of oil and a pot of water on the stove. She turned the wrong burner on.

They put me on a lot of pain medicine. None of it helped. Or, more specifically, it helped a lot. It just didn't help nearly enough.
As a surgery resident I spent six months working in a burn unit. Your post gave me flashbacks.

I hope you don't mind if I find this funny. In a "good comedian" way, not a laugh-at-you way.

I recently shattered my kneecap and it hurt a lot even after the surgery. But my pain was my choice -- I rejected all opioids -- and I imagine it would have responded to painkillers. Not responding to painkillers = lots of fucking pain.

I will remember not to put a pot of oil on the stove with anything else. I don't really cook with pots of oil. Your post is doing nothing to make me reconsider.

What a rotation. My guess is that burn units are pretty fucking depressing places to work. That, and highest security institutions for mentally ill patients. My wife did that and she said it was an absolutely horrible experience. She's been offered jobs, with big $$, but she turns them down. Will never do that again, she said.

It must take a lot of fortitude to work as a burn doctor. Is that dermatology or is it another specialty/sub-specialty?

I have talked about it a couple of times on here, but am fine givng the details. I'm mostly past the PTSD.

I was badly burned in 2013 trying to movie a pot of burning hot oil out of the house to keep our house from burning down (the flames had reached our microwave over the stove and I panicked). I got to the door before the heat of the burning oil was so intense (and the burns on my right thumb so bad) that I dropped the pot of oil on the floor while I was trying to open the door with my other hand, burned off most of the skin on my right foot down to muscle and bone, and fell in it. I ended up with second degree burns on both arms and legs and severe third degree burns on my hands, feet, and butt. I crawled outside, and my wife called 911 and the fire department showed up a minute or two later, with the ambulance getting there in about 10. I spent ten days in the hospital, with a level of intense pain that I cannot describe, needed to get multiple skin grafts done, and had to learn how to walk again.

In 2021, right when school was starting up after Covid, my neighbor's house burned down due to a cigarette butt that fell out of an ashtray. There were four generations living in that house at the time, and everyone was able to make it out except the matriarch, who died of smoke inhalation after the fact. She had been asleep when it happened and, although they were able to get her out of the house relatively quickly, it was too late. She survived on a respirator for 7 days, never woke up, and they eventually put her to sleep.
Wow. That’s awful. So sorry you had to go through what you did and your neighbors had to go through what they experienced.

Sorry to further hijack this thread with sad stories of house fires, but reading all that reminded me of a terrible fire that one of my college classmates (so a fellow Guilford alum) had the horror of experiencing.

About 10 years go, her house burned down and she lost her two young sons. The fire started while everyone was asleep. When she and her husband woke up there were already flames everywhere. They could not get out of their room through the bedroom door so had to escape through the window. The house was so engulfed in flames, they couldn’t find a way to get to their sons’ rooms. I can’t imagine the horror and agony of not being able to save your kids in that situation.

In the immediate aftermath, I’m sure they didn’t feel luck to survive. I’m sure they much rather would have died rather than live to experience the pain of losing their kids and the agony of wondering whether and how much their kids may have suffered.

Thankfully, they seem to have found peace. They had kids again and they continue to celebrate the lives of the sons they lost and find peace and joy in remembrance.

Does anyone remember when ItsBoTime resurfaced and apologized for purposefully being contrarian and stoking divisiveness and said he had been in a dark place in his life and was working on turning things around? I wonder what ever happened to that guy.
I don't, but I do remember Bo regailing us, or heeltalk, with stories about being an extremely mediocre fireman.

JFC that's fucking awful. Gotta say though, you didn't panic...you reacted. There's a difference. Indicision would've lead to your house buring down. I don't know what I would've done in that situation but I can't say I would've done anything different.

Also, sring...we've been posting on the same boards for what...15-20 years? How is the first time I've seen you post about your burns?

Cheers bro and thanks for not dying!

is this a euphamism for his "cryed after sex because I suck" story? I fell like it is...

I have posted about it half a dozen times. I am always afraid that I harp on it too much and I don't want to be that guy.

I have this weird response to crisis situations. My concern is always for everything, and everyone, but my own safety. It is almost pathalogically concerning looking back. I will tell you about the fights I have broken up later when I have time

Honestly, on self reflection, this wan't my finest hour. I feel like that crossed a line, and I'm honestly sorry for that.

Bo is Zen is Bo. Early on, Zen confessed to having been Bo and did apologize and said he was working on being better. Part of it was he said he was terminally online (my word, or paraphrase from what I remember) and caught in a cycle of lashing out looking to get negative engagement.

I am sorry Zen, that was a low blow. I was one of the ones who was happy you were back and wished (and still wish) you the best. Just know that best you is not the one that seeks negative engagement.

So sorry you went through that.

I didn't think Zen is Bo. Bo is ZZLPHeels.

I believe Zen is Jorts from the ICZZLP.

You are correct that ZZLPHeels is Bo, but Zen is not Jorts, who posts here from time to time as PurpleNurple. Zen may be Taco, however, and people did call him TacoBo.
Sorry for name checking you (mistakenly), Bo/ZZLPHeels!

Zen, I feel like you have some of the negative engagement seeking behavior that old Bo had (witch is probably why I confused you). Doesn't have to be this way. There is a better way.

ZZLP/Bo is a different poster than he was. I see a big difference.
That doesn’t mean we always agree on everything (particularly guns and some other things, and that is okay), but I think we need to get past the old Bo and have grace for ZZLP. No need to keep beating him up over a time that he himself says was not a great time for him.
