Remove generals loyal to the constitution, Legalize all soldiers (your soldiers) to have firearms on base incase you missed a officer willing to stand up for democracy. Sounds like dictatorship 101 to me.

Some officers are typically removed at the beginning of a war. The skills needed for a peacetime military are very often different from a wartime officer's corp and its often not apparent until a war starts.

Gen Marshall removed 500 senior officers (not just generals) at the beginning of ww2 and promoted guys like Eisenhower, Bradley and Ridgeway.

Gen Walker was on the ground in Korea removing officers who weren't right.

Its just part of the deal, and not making some of those hard choices early, ie. Vietnam, can lead to bigger problems later.

Not to say that is what Hegseth is doing, but its at least possible.
