Talked to several of my friends who recently got back from deployments to WNC. They are mostly a conservative bunch but were very fed up with the misinformation that was being spread about the response out there. They were able to cite specific instances of threats to workers delaying their operations. These are guys who worked their asses off out there, ultimately on FEMA's dime, only to come home and be told how nothing is being done.

Power seems to be coming back on for lots of folks, just in time for the cold weather. Ready.gov lists outages from the 4 potential providers:

Buncombe 807
Forsyth 294
Haywood 20
Henderson 316
Madison 230
Mcdowell 94
Mitchell 1,664
Rutherford 276
Watauga 28
Yancey 3,645

The others just single-digits

Buncombe County Schools will start back next week, with Wednesday and Thursday being staff/teacher work days and Friday being the first day back for kids. Many of the teachers and staff are still trying to put their lives back together and are not happy about it.

They must have gotten enough water tankers lined up to service their schools because they still have several schools with no water. And, I'll be interested to see what they're gonna do at the schools in the Owen district because that area got obliterated.
